Primary drive gear broke in half - Need assistance.

Hi All,

New guy here and I have to say that this site is awesome. One of the SMJ members pointed me this way and I'm glad he did.

Here is my problem: Primary drive gear broke in half at the key link. Bike is at Longevity Racing (Husaberg dealer) getting repaired. When the primary went it chunked some teeth from another gear (not sure which).

I did a search and found some good info but I was hoping to get some pointers on this repair to pass along to my dealer.

What can we so that this will not happen again? Thanks in advance for the assistance!

Bike background: 2006 FS650C - Roadracer (yes no jumps) - I'm running a 16 teeth in the front and a 38 or 40 in the rear.
Bike has about 3-4 hours on it - I change the oil and filter every ride.

Love my Berg and need her running!

Thanks,

Tony.

Common failure when used on asphalt.

Shot peen the broached keyway and insure the jam nut is not bottoming on the crankshaft shoulder as opposed to locking the gear.

Consider yourself lucky this did not punch a hole in your case as mine did. Take Dale's suggestion and be sure to re-torque it to spec and use permanent loctite. They break when the nut holding the gear on works loose on deceleration.

Might be worth your trouble to inspect the gear teeth on the clutch basket as well.

Hi Tony!
I´m also roadracing. Be sure the rear sprocket still has all possible shock absorbing capability against the hub. Whats the correct english word for those rubber elements/blocks? I fabricated a new hub with "rubbers" to my Honda RS250, which is propelled by you-know-what.

they're collectively called the 'cush drive' mate. probably fom the word cushion which is the fluffy pillow but for te living room.

Good news.

Looks like the warranty company is going to cover the repair.

I'll keep you posted.

Good to see you found your way here Tony :)

and even better news about your warranty :D

Not so good news and need some assistance, please.

Hey all,

The Berg is fixed. The gears were not the only issue. It looks like when the gears shattered and chunks started to fly it also damaged the crank.
Here is my issue.

Long's Motorcycle Sales - My Husaberg dealer in Miami, Florida got a pre-authorization number/letter from the warranty company. And it states that they were approving this based on the information that had been given to them by the shop. $2494.00 (included the crank).
I get a call from Long's yesterday and I am told that the warranty company stated that the repair was not approved.
I have a copy of the fax that Long's sent me with the warranty companies pre-approval.
I don't have $2500 to pickup the bike and I really think that the warranty company should pick up the bill.

Who can I contact at Husaberg to get assistance with this? And any contact information would be great.

Advice?

Thanks!!

Tony Diaz

that seems very unfair- indeed wrong to do that. they have agreed to do it so they shouldn't renade on that even if they made a mistake!

good luck

I am going to go throw up now...

Spoke to the warranty company.

They told me that Husaberg has not paid them for the warranty on my bike. This is the reason why they do not have it in the database.

He explained to me that he contacted "Bob" at Husaberg and that Bob stated that he would "look into it".

Basically he is saying that they will pay $2520.37 to the dealer after Husaberg pays them for the warranty.

And the wait begins....... We will see.

wtf? I don't understand....

The one-year warranty available on these bikes in the US is not from Husaberg but from a third-party insurance company. I still have my fingers crossed that a check will come in for roadracer618, but it hasn't yet...
