Hi,
Having removed the engine from the frame. I've started the disasembly to rectify the fault that existed when I purchased the bike.
(The bike locked up when the previous owner tried to start it after an oil change)
What an amazing engine......The cylinder reminds me of the TZ250 (Yamaha two stroke) Moto GP motors I worked on in the early 80's except this is a four stroke motor that deposed the two strokes from GP Motocross!
Anyway.....with the cylinder and piston removed, I can see the fault. The counter balance is out of time and is therefore hitting the base of the conecting rod when one tries to turn the engine over.
It is not clear to me yet why this condition exists.
Has anyone else seen this happen?
I read somewhere that the counter balance in these engines is somewhat unreliable.
I'm stopped now in need of pullers. Hopefully that will be sorted out tomorrow.
