Another another Weep Hole question....

Hello guys,

I have a leeking problem from the weep hole at the waterpump as well.

My bike is a 2004 FE501e with 16 hours on it. During a three day off-road trip my engine overheated and started boiling. Cooland squirted out of the weep hole, but from that moment on coolant (not oil) continued leeking from the hole quite severely. I refilled water every two hours and finaly used 'radiator leek fix' wich stopped the leeking.

Although only coolant-water leeked from the hole I noticed yesterday that there seems to be water in my engine-oil (oil looks milky thru the oil level glas).

My question:

- How could this happen?
- Is it someting that could have caused damage to my engine?
- What needs to be fixed?

Hope you guys can give me some info.

Thanks!

Hello Proemer

I have the same problem on my FE450e, but not as severe as yours.

Just got round to fixing mine today.

There is a small seal behind the water pump impeller that causes the problem. Unfortunately the side casing needs to be removed and a bearing and the above mentioned seal have to be replaced also a o`ring on the water pump shaft.

I think that by adding the "rad leek fix" it may have blocked the weep hole and the coolant has forced past the bearing seal mixing with the oil.

After doing the work on my bike i thought that it is a lot of work to replace a small seal and why replace a perfectly good bearing to get at the water pump seal.
So i think i will look at trying to make a tool to remove the water pump seal without removing the side cover.

Anyway Proemer it looks like you will have to by some parts and do some work on the engine.
Good luck and don`t despair it`s only a small problem.
