Cam timing & starting woos

Hi gang,

Just wanted to check I've got my cam timing right (ish).
It's an '02 650.
Its a pig to start and will only start when it feels like it.
Once running it runs nice.
It just had a rebuild after a mains failure and the only doubt in my mind at the moment is the cam timing.
Please can one of you knowledgeable guys help a weekend meddler out.

I've attached a couple of photos taken while the engine was at TDC on compression stroke.

first of all forget the flywheel mark and get the single dot between the two other dots. the way to do it is in the doc under rebuilds....

secondly, you're on the wrong stroke. change the crank 360 degrees and get it with the lobes up at 11 and 1 'o clock.

when you're happy that they are symetrical and the dots are spot on- THEN you turn the crank 360 degrees and fit the rocker cover. ok?

Cheers Taffy,

Looks like I'm a tooth out.

Which hopefully explains why its a pig start and runs flat as a witches tit.

Thanks again Boyo
