Fe501e stator timing mark?

Hi all,
I have a 2002 Fe501e I need to get the timing right. I put the new TDC mark in the flywheel but when I looked at the stator....no mark. I rotated the flywheel clockwise again until the intake valves close and the rotate slowly until TDC and still no stator mark to align with the flywheel mark. Any ideas Taffy if your watching?

Oh.... before anyone asks, the bike does idle and does run, but is very hard to start, so I thought I'd check the timing...

Many thanks Taffy, I've watched alot of your tuning videos, your a legend, without your commitment to the old Bergs alots of us would have given up long ago.
l realise the original SEM, which had a timing line on it, has been changed for an Electrex, which hasn't. I've retarded it half way between middle positon and full retarded in the stator adjustment screws. Is that enough or can it measured more accurately?
I'll try to start it tomorrow.

go to fully retarded and then come back 1mm.

Ideally you'd put a strobe on it and find 6 degrees BTDC.

Taffy

Right cover off, fully retard Electrex stator and back 1mm , tighten screws. Strobe fitted. 2nd kick YOU BLOODY BEAUTY MATE. Set idle and the strobe mark slight left of centre. It sounds crisp. Now starts. first kick.( It's never started easy and this bike had been owned by mechanic)
Now I'll be upgrading decomp and starter motor soon. An internal gear change needed for a R6 starter or not?
Many thanks Taffy
