the problem is that the orange 'F1' light is not coming on whilst cranking,

I guess this means the fuel pump is not running,

Fuses are good
tried another ECU

any ideas what to try next,

thanks for any help,

Dave

Sounds like there could be no power from the power relay? This relay operates when it sees voltage from the alternator when the engine is turned over, wether by the electric starter or bump starting and makes the 'ignition' live.

If the engine cranks OK then the battery is good so...

When you press the start button momentarily and release can you hear the fuel pump cycle?

After cranking the engine the power relay should stay engaged for a few seconds. Try the lights, horn etc to see if they work immediately after cranking. They should until the relay drops out.

thanks for the reply,

no humming from the pump at all,

how can I check the power relay, I guess this is the big relay that has the 20A fuse ?

thanks again,

Dave

Did you recently remove the tank? Perhaps the plug for the fuel pump is not secure. I have also seen someone rout the fuel pump wire too close to the header and melt it. Also disconnect the fuel line and re-attach, you should hear a distinct click if not the fuel line is not functioning. Good luck.

thanks Mark but I already checked the pump electrical plug and I don't think it's the fuel line as the problem seems to be electrical ie F1 light not coming on,

Dave

Sorry I missed that in your post. I just grazed through the service manual, and could not find anything on the light not coming on.

The large relay next to the battery is the starter realy, not the power relay.
Working from the wiring diagram:

Check power at fuse 2. It should be permanently live (12v). Fuses 1, 3 and 4 are dead until you crank the engine and the power relay cuts in. If these fuses do not become live when trying to start the bike there is no power from the power relay.
Not exactly sure where the power relay is but looking at the parts diagrams it must be somewhere round the battery area, possibly behind the tank. It has 4 terminals.

Terminal 4 (white/red)is the main power input and terminal 3 (yellow/red) the output to the fusebox. If the power relay is not operating, bridging these terminals should send +12v to fuses 1,3 & 4 which means everything electrical on the bike (should) have power to start & run.

When my orange light stopped working it was a loose connection in the wiring loom near the shock
Hope this helps keep us informed

Hello guys,

I have almost the same issue. When pressing the starting button the starting relay it makes a click and that's it.The fuel pump doesn't receive 12v.Strange is that i've been out last weekend and after 2 rounds in the woods new battery went dead and the issue started.Click,click.

Please advise,

I have a similar issue. Was it an electrical connection?

Came across this thread looking for something else but thought I should share.
I had a very weird problem similar, turns out the connection inside the tank, external to pump, was broken.

Hello! Please help! My 2011 berg fe450 won’t start. I washed it and blow the water with compressed air. after I started it for 10 min and drive 2 km. Then I turned off. All good. After one week bike won’t start. Dash dead. FI no light. No blown fuses. I replaced dash battery. Engine is turning but won’t start. I put contact spray in all joint. Nothing. When I made a bridge from + to fuse 1, gas pump started and FI on but I don’t hit start afraid not to burn smtg. I don’t find power relay to test it!

Please find 6 pin diag connector (see pic 1) under seat near ECU and connect two wire by metal chort or wire (pic 2).

You need to coonect brown and black white wires together and try to start engine.

@Waw ok. It started. Thank you very much! Now what is the problem that I must do the 5 and 6 bridge to start?!
After when you push to start button, engine begins to rotate, generator begins to give alternating current ( AC) by three wires to voltage regulator N1( it situated on left front side. then regulator will connect black white wire with brouwn wire ( massa or minus ) please check it

@Waw ok. Can’t check it now, but after I start the moto I tested the battery and it’s was charging. I will test the regulator and the brown wire for interruption. Thanks!

No voltage at brown wire or blackwhite when I push start. But when I make bridge between 5 and 6 pin and I start, voltage regulator charge the battery!
