01 Fe 400 flywheel issues

The flywheel looks to be aftermarket? I bought an aftermarket stator locally, and right after installing it I kick the bike over and the bolts that hold the stator in rubbing on the inside of the flywheel. So I thought I can grind a Corners down so it wouldn't rub and I got it to run! However that was short-lived. It seems like when I let off the start button, it won't fire. So I installed the factory sem stator that seems to throw spark still and it makes contact to this flywheel as well. I do have a brand new flywheel off my 01 fx470. Will that work on the fe400? The previous owner *******ize the wiring harness, so I swapped over the 470 harness, got Spark and that's where we are right now. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated20231212_184938.jpg20231212_184958.jpg

that's not where the screws normally rub. ?

the stator screws are meant to be a rare type of flat headed allen screw. the lowest commercially available screw is the button headed phillips (standard) screw.

the flywheel in the photo is the 470FX flywheel? that is OK yes.

The MX 470 known as the FC470 has a shallower flywheel and a spacer behind and between the stator cover and the stator pushing it towards the flywheel. That's OK on the FC but the alloy spacer can't be used on the FX stator. I'm just saying.

Thank you for your quick response Taffy. You identifying the flywheel really helped, and now I have more questions. That being said, registration says it's an 01 FC 400. Can the 470 flywheel work on the 400 or do I have a 470 motor? Here are some more pictures. Thanks again and look forward to your reply 20231215_144128.jpg20231215_144243.jpg20231215_144340.jpg20231215_153850.jpg

You can see where the stator was rubbing on the flywheel. Like I previously mentioned I do have an 01 fx470 which has become my parts bike. The 400 wiring harness came with that three phase regulator rectifier mounted underneath the seat and that green rectangular part with a blue and black on one end and a red and black on the other. What is that? I had a battery drain disconnected that from the system and then I had no spark. That's what encouraged me to put in a simpler wiring system from the 470. After installation I did have spark but I wanted to check for contact on the stator to the flywheel and this is what I found help me brother

that top photo of a flywheel with the gold coloured rim plus the green box are not standard items. someone has fitted them.

as for your sdtator, as I said, the stator screws are too tall. CAN YOU HEAR ME?

Finally, in the same photo of the stator, in the hole in the middle, down the bottom is some shiny metal. i believe that this could be the alloy ring i talked of and the stator is sitting on it. That lifts it up! The ring is for the FC ignition and not yours.

Cheers

Taffy

I hear you Taffy. I do know that those are the wrong screws and they have been replaced just an older photo. Back to my original post about the flywheel being aftermarket, as it has that gold ring around the outside. Maybe I misunderstood you but I thought you told me it was for a 470. But looking at the picture you may not have seen the gold ring. As far as the spacer, it's a new cover all shiny and new. Someone spent a lot of time and money and loved this bike. And I love this bike, and I really appreciate your knowledge and guidance with my quest. And cheers to you my friend

the flywheel from 1999-2003 was the same for all CC of engines and for the FE and FX.
any FC (motocross) model made during that time had its own stator that sat on an alloy collar in the stator cover so that the stator was pushed into the flywheel. The flywheel utself is also much, much thinner and is fairly easy to spot with a good photo. You have the FE/FX flywheel. you have the FE/FX stator.
