what engine oil brands are our options in the USA?

Lots of recommendations for motorex, but that is hard to get in the US.

5w-40 in the winter and 10w-50 in the summer, seems to be the recommendation by the community as well as the manual.

My bike is a 2008 fe550.

I’ve seen others suggest Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 with frequent oil changes, the oil is cheap so that is doable. What about any of the power sport brand oils? Yamalube? husqvarna? Motul?

What have you found the be cheapest without sacrificing wear and tear on your machine?
 
The most important in an oil is the TBN ( total base number - higher is the better ) which show how much can handle the oiling characterics and the second is the WEAR SCAR ( lower is the better ) which show us the wear from the friction . I dont trust any oil does not show these two informs in his data sheet . If you find an oil with better TBN and wear scar let me know to buy it .I didnot found anything better in 20 years search so i use amsoil only in these years .I tried many oils but all had huge quanity of practiles in dilution paper at oil change .Anyone have good talks about an oil but nobody can provide clues in reality like Amsoil except talks. Also i never found a coolant better than Evans Racing.

Yes the manual says 5w-40 below 0 C and 10w-50 over 0 c . At 2004 i bought my Husa the only available oil from Amsoil was 10w-40 and 20w-50 .The second it was very very heavy for this engine so i used 0w-40 for temps bellow 10c and 10w-40 for temps over.I changed the oil at 5 hours because it was very thin.But you can see the results on my 300 hours piston.It gone perfect , more than i expected with this thin oil.Today i use 5w-50 for temps below 10 c and 10w-50 over 10 c .Also i use 15w-50 at heavy Greek summer months but never something over 50w because ruin the starter gears . Take a look at the temps of the Athens 2023 summer on the video_O , over 184 f on the cars to the sun.

Using Motul full synthetic 10-40. No problems, not the cheapest, but do you really want the cheapest oil for a 'Burg?

Test motul and others and take your final decision . You have not pronlems for sure .Nobody have problems for long time but in the end have a big one . For to say i have problem with oil you must rebuild your engine after 100 hours and measure the clearences in metals . Then you will now for sure . Ihave did it over 10 times and i say the motul is the worst oil ever .Take a look at the tests on this page .Its not my opinion but officialy .
