Rear lights issue/working the opposite way

Hi all, it's been a while since iv pulled my berg out so I thought I'd give her some tlc and bring her out of retirement. Started straight up.
I'm having an issue where my rear light is on when the light switch is off and then goes off when switched on. Front light is working fine. No brake light, tested both brake switches and they are ok.
Just wondered if anyone had this problem before? Iv checked the loom for broken wires and it bleeps out, there's no wire that's rubbed through. As it stands, both the brown wire(earth) and white wire(light) have continuity to earth, the white and dark green/blue does have continuity to the brake switches and bleeps out fine.
If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful
Thanks

Did it just happen when the bike was in storage? have you gone over the wires to see that there isnt any damaged cables?

you're probably feeding the live in via the earth and then its trying to earth out down the positive wire. I suggest you remove the live to the tallight and confirm it is the live. then the wire it fed into that goes to the taillight? well that must come in on the two noses underneath the bulb. the earth is from the house the bulb went into.

Hi, yes happened whilst in storage.
I have removed the connector plug and soldered the wires together to eliminate bad connection. Light now works but brake light will only work when lights are off. I'm guessing it must be a bad connection somewhere. Iv had the bike stripped to inspect the loom and there's no obvious damage I can see.
I was going to sell it as I haven't used it for ages but im struggling to part with it I won't lie.
Next on my list would be the engine whine

Thanks taffy but I should have said I have an aftermarket led rear tail tidy so it's hard to know which is the earth for certain at the light side
