Guy's, has anyone had there plug cap popping off while riding? Plug tight, new NGK cap with new rubber seals. Cap ratchets onto plug tight and pushes snug into head cavity but pops off. Stays on when rubber seal removed from bottom of cap! Doin my head in is it due to air expanding under cap whith seal on. Don't want to fry stator again. Is there a water weep hole blocked in head causing pressure under cap? Any ideas really has me stumped?

Cheers

Sure the plug is in tight, not cross threaded and leaking compression or plug washer caught on the threads? Pull out plug and make sure it's seated correctly, always good to run a little moly grease on the threads. Check the weep hole is not blocked, squirt WD down with plug in to check- a good idea to stop plug from rusting.

Rikschipp, I'm suspecting the weep hole is problem. Do you know where it drains so I can reverse flush it?

Cheers

It just stops water collecting around the plug hole- you should always blow out around the plug before removing, as crap sitting around the plug will drop down plug hole when you remove it. So remove plug cap, blow WD down hole, if it does not run out weep hole, blow out with air or try to get WD nozzle right down to get it clear. Every time I wash my bike I squirt a bit in the weep hole and watch it drain out, also keeps plug from rusting.

plug caps for a 12mm and a 14mm plug are similar.
use the 'stud' type plug cap and not the 'nut' type cap.
on my web shop all plug caps have the angle and whether stud or nut type.

Yep thanks, this is an older 2000 model Berg where exactly is the weep hole in head and where do you see it run out exactly? Going to pull tank off and plug out to have a proper look at this thing.

Cheers,

Thanks Taffy, have the correct cap fitted. Being Berg expert does 2000 FE600e head have plug hole water drain/weep hole if so where exactly is it and where is drain outlet? I think cap being blown off by air pressure but zero comp leak at plug! New NGK cap seal very tight seal when pushed into head. Cap stays on with seal removed!

Cheers,
T

well you can't miss it on this photo of the later engine. Perhaps the ***** is in season?

(sorry, I'll get my coat)

Yep I see later engine has it my old 2000 has zero weep drain! Had to modify plug cap seal to let air escape now stays on. NGK cap seal very tight seal not allowing vent.
