Fe650 -02 regulator/rectifier connections

Hang on, there is some very technical jargong to follow!
I'm trying to get my bike to charge my battery basically, and can't figure out how the cable from the stator should connect to the regulator/rectifier...
I've looked at the wiring diagrams, but I think a previous owner has made some modifications to the electronics. The 2 yellow cables from the stator should connect to the regulator/ rectifier, does that mean they connect to the black connector thing (please look at the pictures) that is facing the rear of the bike? Currently there is only an earth cable plugget in there...
I'll just make it clear at this point that yes, the bike runs! Kill switch works, lights and horn work but obviously the battery isn't charging.
There is also a yellow and a Brown cable coming out of the regulator/rectifier. The Brown cable is plugget into the "multiconnector" at the bottom where most other earth leads are connect. Is that correct? And where does the yellow cable go? The one that is coming out of the regulator/rectifier? I can't find that one on the wiring diagram.

I measurements the resistance over the cables coming from the stator, green to black is 166 ohm, black to red is 3.001 ohm. Got 2.9VDC between the red and black when the bike was odling. The yellow cables coming from the stator aren't showing resistance or voltage with bike odling or turned off. Maybe not a great sign?
Stator shouldn't be completely shot since bike starts and runs just fine?

Any thought or help is appreciated, I'm worried I might damage the rectifier/regulator if I hook it up wrong and then start the bike...

the finned rectifier should be flipped so you only see the back of it. only 3 of the 4 posts are used and you can see their order in the attached diagram.

one yellow goes to the wedding ring box - the regulator.
the other yellow goes into a red, it joins it halfway along it. that red is the open positive that everything feeds off that wants to work.

do you still have the 'ground carousel'? a piece of metal upon which 7 wires can earth.

Yes I still have the carousel, it's got lots of brown cables connected to it (a good sign!)
So the red/white that plugs into one of the four connections is what is supposed to be charging the battery?
On the diagram it looks like the horn and indicators are powered by the circuit powered by the 2nd yellow cable from the stator?
Surely my ancestor could have come up with a system that would be easier to understand!
It's connected now, I'll wait until tomorrow ro fire it up and see if the battery is getting any juice?
 
It's been a busy couple of days!
I got everything connected according to Taffys diagram, and behold! It works!!!
However, the indicators weren't working, only occasional little flash of light, so I checked and the voltages aren't that impressive. Battery was just sitting at 9V when I started the bike, only climbed to around 10V with the bike running. Probably the reason for the indicators not working? Not enough voltage?
I also noticed when I increase the revvs the voltage climbs for a split second but then it drops back down. Could anyone shine some light on what's happening there? If the stator works surely the voltage should climb with the revs?

Normal bulbs (no LED) front and back. They worked fine with old wiring, they were on the same circuit as the battery before I changed it back to factory (maybe?). Now they run off one of the yellow cables from the stator, same circuit that charges the battery, and not working anymore. I measured the voltage over the battery with bike running and it was around 10V with thr bike running. Voltage dropped a bit when I revved the bike! Explain that too!
Or maybe don't explain that one, could be expensive
 
So is the low voltage likely to be a “cable and connectors” problem as opposed to being a problem with the regulator or stator? Is there a way to test that the regulator works? Just love electronics!
 
I don't typically hijack another thread but since this thread is newer and the question was answered I figured it would be ok to ask another related question. My new stator for my 2003 FE400E came in today and it has the same color wires as the old one which is pictured, 2 yellow and one blue. When I purchased the bike all the wires were disconnected and as you can see someone installed some cheap ends on the three yellow wires. This is where I get confused. As you can see the regulator has 3 yellow wires (5 total) and no blue. The Stator has 2 yellow and one blue. The stator wiring matches my wiring diagram but the rectifier does not.

A separate question is how do you test a CDI unit to see if it is good? The previous owner included 2 CDI units with the bike and I am unsure of how to test them to find out which one if any is the good one?

you must try the ignition modules on other bikes that are running fine.

the chinese units I use, they put a blue ring on one of the three yellow wires. I'm told it doesn't matter which you choose to be the earth.

Thanks Taffy-my new one does have a blue band on it. Sorry to still sound confused ...so do I abandon one of the yellow wires from the rectifier and ground the blue wire to the frame? Or do I just attach all three wires and don't worry about color?
 
If you bang around on the internet long enough I guess your question will be answered. Found this on some obscure website........

basically all three pour in electricity or not and then whatever is excess is always grounded out through your black/white and the good stuff comes out the red.

so that is why it doesn't matter.
