Hey guys,

New to this site as I just acquired my first berg. It hasn't been ruden for a while and I'm just getting it road ready. I've got it nearly ready but am having real trouble with the factory digital speedo. There is power right up to the cable connection coming out of the back of the unit (triangular 3 pin connector with 1 red/white and 2 brown wires), however the unit won't light up. If I take the unit off and leave it for a while and then plug it back in the unit lights up for a few seconds then falls dead again? I actually have a second speedo the same off one of my ktm's and the same thing happens. I've heard they were a dodgy unit but wonder if anyone on here knows a workaround to get them and keep them working? I'm located in Tasmania Australia and also wonder if anyone knows where to find parts for these rare beasts these days?
Anyhow thanks in advance, these bikes are heaps of fun!
Cheers
Luke

OK well you can get parts from me.

the speedo wasn't fitted to a 2002. the 2002 had the last analogue clocks so I reckon you have a 2003 which Australians were getting from October 2002 onwards so best to check the 10th digit of the chassis.

also, a real 2003 has two oil drain bungs on the right hand side. they are side by side. 2002 has one.

they are designed to flash up for about a minute whenever you move the bike. they then cut the eleectricity themselves so if you pushed all your husabergs back in the garage at night you basically wouldn't need a workshop light to see yourself to the out door.

so starting it is essential.

Hey Taffy, thanks heaps for the info. Pretty sure it's an 02 model as there is only one drain bung and the build date was 08/02 (see pics).
I have started the bike with both speedos but get no power on the display? The fact the same thing happens with both speedos suggests to me I might have a problem with the wiring but I'm no sparky. Any other suggestions? The triangle plug is the only one plugged in I can't see a plug for the square one on the bike. Also does the unit need to be bolted to its bracket to be earthed? I have been testing it just sort of sitting on top of the bracket.

they earth through a return wire. the 2003 clocks were known as getting water ingress and crying off straight away! they also have their own battery inside behind a 20mm+ plastic cap. with this missing water will get everywhere.

you need to check for the feed not whether the light came on or not. you need to isolate the problem.

I can't give you an action by action resume of electrics so I hope you can get into it on your own.

the 2002, unless someone else knows better should have an analogue clock and two or three 'pop-in' lights. one was indicator (green), full beam (or was it lights?) = blue and a light behind the face. all come on luckily at different times.

the old 2002s had a key and so you "turned on the electrics".

Hello Luke,
I had the exact same issue with the factory speedo unit on my 2004 FE450. Long story short was it had an internal issue. I purchased a Trail Tech KTM/Husqvarna Endurance II speedo unit from MX Store $170 and it's awesome. The speedo unit bolts up to the original mount, and the speed sensor does screw into the Husaberg caliper mount (does need a small amount of modification with a drill). I have fitted a new connector plug to go between the trail tech wiring and the original Husaberg wiring. I'm in Tas too so if you want some pictures etc let me know and I'll sort you out. I've been to Scotts Motorcycles in Invermay and they are happy to licence my bike with the trail tech unit.
Cheers,
Charles
