FCR 41 carb

Pretty sure mine is from a multi cylinder bike as it has no choke or hot start.
It had been fitted to a Berg before luckily so the jetting was pretty close.

I've got one!

I'm down Sarf now. Pompy based for 6 months! Might just have to get a van rented and bring the berg down!

Let me know if you get it down and when it's sorted. Be good to meet up and do a ride out.

Hi folks - new here. Sold my KTM 690 and got a 2008 FE550 Husaberg. Doing a bit of pre-ride servicing and had a quick question. Hope this is the right spot for a 550 FCR carb question.

So on my bike, this cover, and associated diaphragm and springs, etc. - appears to be missing.

Any idea why? Bike runs fine, is race tuned (carb done by Rick Bozarth / Boss).

The manual mentions a cover, spring, diaphragm, etc. But not its specific function.

Any help for a newb? It's my first FCR carb - prior to this I had an FI KTM 690, and prior to that a stock carb on a DRZ - so these pumper carbs are a bit new to me.

Thanks,

cm

Mine has the cover spring and diaphragm etc, supposed to stop deceleration backfire I believe. I have disabled it :)
Read it makes it hard to get adjustment on the mixture screw correct the real reason I removed it;)
Looks to me from your photos that there are no holes drilled for the circuit or that the cover holes have been taped, so may be it is a factory delete option?

Thanks gents.

On closer inspection, the holes aren't tapped, nor is there a penetration in the diaphragm cavity.

This being a Racing Replica spec model, I guess it came without the smog / deceleration kit.

Case closed. Thanks to you both.

On the Keihin two additional valves/pumps could be installed.
  1. Fuel acceleration pump
  2. Air-cut valve

The old Dellorto comes with or without fuel acceleration pump, but doesn't have an air-cut valve option.

The Fuel acceleration pump should avoid "hick-ups" when accelerating. On the Dellorto, when accelerating, the throttle slide moves up, it actuates a lever which presses on the diaphragm pump which pumps gasoline into the venturi/main barrel. When releasing the throttle slide a spring pushes the diaphragm/membrane in it's initial position, via another one-way valve gasoline is sucked into the pump again, ready for the next time accelerating. On the Keihin that pump is attached to the float bowl and actuated by an external lever.

The air-cut valve should prevent popping in the exhaust during deceleration. The diaphragm blocks the air bleed system of the low speed circuit partially and therefore enriches the mixture. It's actuated by vacuum during deceleration.

Found out today that the hot start an choke aren't interchangeable! One has a rubber seal on the end the other doesn't.

So stupid question. Does the choke plunger have a catch to hold it out? If not how the hell you start it??

My FCR 41 sprung a fuel leak. Turns out at the last service reassembly, the gadget between the float and bowl got pinched and torn at the rear/left corner.

Not finding too many places that sell it, not on AOMC/KTM, or Taffy. Is this a good source?

Also, I noticed the brass fuel inlet fitting in the carb has a lot of lateral play (in-out). Also some radial play. I see no separate part number for that. Is there one for it, and or the gaskets, and instructions on how to remove? There's a hole that looks like it could have had a set screw next to it, but is not threaded.

I ask because while I know the gasket is a factor, I'm thinking the brass fitting may also be leaking. Hard to tell, since it's leaking from right above, where the aforementioned bowl gasket is pinched.

Thanks very much.

OK - sorted the gasket issue on my own, but for the benefit of future readers ....

The top bowl-to-carb gasket is available as a single piece - "O" Ring 1202-896-6000. It's also available as part of a KTM part number (57331099000) - which is a whole kit of all the carb gaskets. Turns out my local Husky dealer can access them as part of a Husaberg->Husqvarna dealership supply requirement. 1 week wait, local - can't go wrong.

For other owners in North America, here's an online source, in the US: AOMC.mx: GASKET SET FCR-MX KEIHIN

Bad news in that I didn't find the single O-ring part until after I'd ordered the whole kit, so I'm paying roughly $100 for just the single gasket I really need, but good news in that it gives me an opportunity to replace all the other gaskets in the carb. In the case of the accelerator pump diaphragm, it looks a bit corroded, sort of like in the above poster's pic, despite my best efforts to clean it. So in the long run, I'll be happy I've got new O-rings all-round.

I'm still in the dark on the brass fuel inlet fitting. Do other owners have play in theirs'? Where is that available to buy? Haven't seen where just that part can be had.

Appreciate any help on that point, please and thanks.

The brass fuel inlet fitting is Keihin Part Number: 1074-892-2100
The three O-Rings are Keihin Part Number:W9351-13057

Just google the part numbers and you will come up with numerous suppliers
