Hi all

Been looking round at the FCR 41 carbs.

There seems to be a fair few around but looking £400 for one.

Are all fcr 41's the same? Some seem to have a wire/cable? That's the TPS I believe?

There's one I've seen for around £300 but looks old and in need of a refurb. I figured if I'm taking the inernals out and refurbing it anyway an older one would be fine

Would this fit a 02 650?

yes, it is known as the 'MX carb'. it has a seperate belmouth making it a Mk1 or MX and well....it is an MX carb. it's the same carb as fitted standard to the Husabergs - all of them!

the TPS is redundant but don't remove it because grit will just get in your carb instead. there's nothing to 'repair' as such. try and buy a a little 'U' piece from Husaberg and a T-junction. a couple of pipes and clips...

try and cut 5mm off your inlet stub and you should be good. there isn't mush to "refurb" on them. just clean it out, set the float height at 9mm dead. change the jetting to Husaberg jetting and off you go!

oh! and you should have (and anyone thinking of buying one) got it with the throttle housing and cables if you can otherwise you have to find another £40-£60.

regards

Taffy

As a complete novice with carbs.

Is a £400 FCR carb £300 better than a del fully set up and correctly jetted?

May or may not help but my old 650 would happily lift the front wheel in third purely on the throttle with the Delo....when i put the FCR on it would do the same in fourth. Not very scientific but a clear improvement.
Is it worth £300? If you're planning on keeping the bike for a few years then yes, definitely.

Cool thanks. I'm not sure if it's where I sit on the bike but I don't seem to lift it that often. Seem to top out quite quickly too but i think that's another thread....

Oh no! Don't give me options....

I saw DCR have a quicksilver one for sale. Did a quick search and found a few NO's from various well respected members. I then spotted the poster was ME! Gregstar was my original login.

Well that's how much a used fcr will cost. So going new would be ideal for the same price.

Just thought it was a clear cut fcr41 is THE way to go, but I'm happy with alternatives.

The only thing that worries me if i have issues there won't be the kind of support and knowledge base the fcr has.

I'll certainly look into it

Makes me laugh when people advertise them as lifting in every gear!Mine was geared to do just on a ton but i tend to sit in the middle of the saddle as i'm tall.

No experience of the Lectron carbs on a Berg but two mates have them on highly modded 125 Huskies taken out to 140 and 160. They love em due to the ease of adjustment.

The lectron website doesn't seem to be working. They are on eBay for 4-500 each. Can get a new fcr for 460

stick to the FCR. let the geeks develop a new carb (there aren't any left ...)

I've messaged a few lectron dealers. Been told there isn't one available yet. Also found a guy that builds up fcr's to order. £400 all in and delivered.

It would be a nice extra. Although a properly set up Del carb would prob make a huge difference. Just wonder what else I could do for 400! Or even £300 and just get a refurb kit.

If I did get a new carb now, would it all need rejetting and setting up if I changed all the internal top parts to 08 parts?

hi I am a bit confused ...refurb kit? you haven't bought it yet..i thought you did :)

with changing all internal parts you mean main jet and stuff inside
normally if you tell them make and model (I haven't used a carb for years with efi bike) they come ready to go when new, you need to set up idle and stuff but nothing special

its all up to you to spend 400, i don't have the experience with the FRC as i haven't mess with it(duo to other problem) ... but plumbbob is saying he noticed the difference between both

I heard of edelbrock carb other then using electron and mikuni but i have no experience with them and also not sure if they fit

did lectron said when they will have one available? if you read review around (not just me) they are really good quality but its all entirely up to you if i have 400 to spend ---> lectron

Hi gregfreefaller,

just wanted to add my opinion as well. The most important when it comes to the carb is, that the carb is fully functional AND set up correctly for suit your engine.

Below you can see the pics - one from Dellorto and one from Keihin - about carburettor operations mode. As you can see, the carburettor system is complicated, since all jets and needles in the system overlap each other in function. The carb-manufacturer developed the system the way it works for a good reason and Dellorto and Keihin carbs are working fine in many bikes and engines.

I fitted a Dellorto on a 2002 FE 501 and on a 2004 FE 550 engine. Works fine for me - as long as your setup fits the engine. I also have a Keihin, which I don't like so far since the setup is not suitable for the 501 and the 550. I think it will also work nice, when the jetting is correct.

FCR carbs have more parts and are more expensive than Dellorto ones. FCR fits Bergs 2004+ by default... when using a Dellorto on a 2004+, you need to make it tight fit to the intake rubber boot.

My opinion about Lectron. I just checked their website - the website looks nice - but the carbs don't (Lectron Details Views pdf attached). To me the carbs look more like scooter carbs - but that's not my concern.
  1. They're new on the market
  2. They do not really advertise a reference bike - you can see pics of 4-stroke engines with their carbs - but the 4-stroke carb is not available yet?
  3. Currently they only advertise 2-stroke carbs
  4. 4-Stroke carb release date is postponed until end of may 2017.

So me personally I don't like a $400+ experimental system, especially when you check the setup procedure with their "fuel ratio tool" (video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWarCP8aC6A), which is another $160.

When you have problems with installing / jetting for a keihin you can always ask guys in this forum - if the Lectron needs adjustment?

When they can proof that their new carb is good and well tested and suits the Berg's, I also want to test one. But I don't want to be their release-test-candidate...

I would spend the money on the Keihin and the correct setup and you'll be fine.

I agree with all...I used lectron on ktm and honda they worked great but as you saying I have never try it on a berg...they worked great for me easy to set..I am happy for now with the fcr( I only used the bike for 6hrs) but does his job...there is a guy who is using the lectron on 2006 TE 610 ... I don't know you guys but for me to spend 460 for a fcr is a lot

I may have sourced a fcr 41 for lots less. It's not the mx model but is fitted to older mx bikes.

Oh when I say a refurb kit I was meaning new needles and jets.

Hi Greg, the refurb kit will just get your bike running and especially starting more reliably rather than improving performance. My Delo was freshly refurbished just before the FCR came along at the right price.
