Hello all. I am in the middle of a supermoto conversion of my FE570S. I have a set of 17" wheels and tires sorted, and I was wondering what braking system to go with?
Depends on your budget and what you'll be using it for.
Cheapest and simplest option would be a 320 disc and a caliper bracket for your standard caliper. LC4 semi floating 320 discs can be picked up very cheaply (though some sellers overprice them massively!). This set up is perfectly adequate for road only use. If you're going to race it, or do track days, you're going to need to look at spending more hard earned
Are you going to run on stock FE suspension? The better your front brake gets, the more fork dive you will get. Decent front brake will quickly use up fork travel on soft enduro suspension!
...and a sweet rcs 15 on top of that (I'd actually start with that), much better feeling than the OEM magura.
Guess you can't go wrong with Beringer either (in terms of performance, but shorter lifespan of the rotor according to friends)
For any radial solution, plenty of cheap brembo calipers on ebay, just beware of the clearance with the wheel spokes, calipers from sportbikes are wider.
I got a full Beringer 6 piston brake kit on mine (+-1750 euro new), have to be gentle with it even with the normal street use pads in it. It's okay but takes a while to get used and especially with still the stock Fe springs, she really likes to make a nose dive when braking then (like they already mentioned).
Overall I'm happy with the brakes, but beware that if you get the 6 piston Beringer race kit like I have that you don't have anything to attach your brake light cable too.
You will have to get an oil pressure switch attached to the brake lever system (can't get the right term, english isn't my native language ) Can't explain it that good with my English knowledge.
Edit : I think it's called a banjo bolt.
