so I took my 1990 fe 501 into a shop and the guy took off all the hoses for the carb and never put them back on... no I need to figure out where they all go. I know which port is the main intake for the fuel so that gets on hose out of the way now I need to know where the other hose that runs off the tank goes and also why fuel is pouring out of the one smaller fitting that is facing down on the carb. it is a dellorto carb any help or suggestions or even links would be great thank you!

Hi Vine,

I have a 1990 501 at home that just so happens to need some carb work. So I will try to get you a description/pictures of where everything goes when I take it apart this weekend. The owners manual and parts lists are on Husaberg's website still, but they are probably of limited help:

I am no mechanic, and assuming I don't get sidetracked with any of my other projects, I will do my best to get you the "connect this hose to this doo-hicky" description.

So, I took some terrible pictures of the hoses, and it's almost impossible to distinguish what is what, but here they are. If I pull the fuel tank later, I will get better pictures. For now, here is how they appear to run:

3 lines out of the fuel pump:
[#1 in pic Carb 1] Lower fitting has a short hose that runs to the bottom of the tank

[#2 in pic Carb 1] Horizontal fitting (yellow cross-hatched hose) runs under the intake manifold and connects just in front of the manifold at the cylinder [#1 in picture Carb 2] *NOTE - there should be a T fitting that connects to the decomp line in the middle of this hose shown as #2 in pic Carb 2

[#3 in pic Carb 1] Fitting on the top of the pump has a long hose that runs up over the frame and connects to the other side of the tank (didn't get a pic of where this connects, but it is toward the rear of the bike from the petcock)

One line from the fuel selector: hose runs over the intake manifold to the intake nipple on the carb, should have a fuel filter inline as well [#4 in pic Carb 1]

On the choke side of the carb, mine has one small black hose and one small yellow one that both appear to be overflow hoses (or at least I hope so since they don't connect to anything)

Hope this helps

Marty

I just realized that I mis-spoke and said that the T fitting [#2 in pic Carb 2] connects to the decomp. Of course, the decomp is a lever driven cable that runs to the top of the cylinder. I just remembered that this T fitting was probably added by the previous owner of my bike and connects to a hot start switch on the handle bars. So, unless this mod was done on yours as well, you likely won't have this.

Sorry for the confusion.
