Hello guys. As some of you may know, I sold my Husabergs and am regretting it. So, I'm in the market for another and really want to stay with the 650.
I found an '01 FE650E about 8 hours away from me and really need your advice on whether or not to persue it.
Now I realize the '01 and '02 models were problematic and I don't mind having to do some upgrading if needed.
Did the 650s suffer from the case cracking at the swing arm pivot like the smaller cc bikes?
Can you still get the crank, rod and bearings for this 644cc engine?

I spoke with the owner on the phone and he told me the bike started off as the Motard version but doesn't know if the dealer converted it or came that way from Husaberg.
He also said the engine had been opened up but doesn't know what was done to it.

Here's the bike: Husaberg FE650

Whatever bike I end up with will only be used for easy to moderate trail riding--no racing.

Thank you gentleman.

yes the cases in 2001 all suffered but there are now enough 2002 and 2003s being broken that if ever that became an issue I'm sure you could salt a set away somewhere ready for the day.

you can get a rod kit still but that should finish this year I imagine. the crank is stupid, stupid money so it is best to upgrade to a 2005-2008 crank if that day comes.

bike looks really nice and with N-style graphics as well. they haven't been available for 10 years so it musthave led a charmed life I reckon!

Taffy

Thanks Taffy, can always count on you to respond. That sets my mind at ease a bit.

If you go the Prineville, take your skis and hit Mt. Bachelor while you are there.
Also it's not hard to get a title here in Oregon, I've done it on a few bikes here.:)

This 550's a little on the high side.....

try a 550 as well if you haven't! I rode one once for 10 minutes and simply can not stop thinking about it ...

Husabut- That's still 6 hours away from me plus I'm on a shoestring budget.
The owner of the 650 in question said he would take $2000 for it.
A friend wants me to pipe and jet his KFX400 quad. I may see if he'd go get this bike in trade for my labor.

Tourist- I had a 2002 550 with a 2007 550 engine. They rip as well but I just like the 650 because you can ride them very low in the RPM range kinda like an XR600. The 550 does that too I guess, so maybe I'll open up my options a bit.

Should never have sold my 2005 FE650E........:(

Well, I'm currently in talks with gentleman who has an '05 FE550.
Here it is. Husaberg FE550 2005
Looks like it's already set up for my type of riding with the skid plate and hand guards. Looks like an FMF muffler as well.
He sent me a few other pics and it looks nicer in those than it does in his ad.

One more time, gentlemen.

What is the opinion regarding an '03 FE501? Carb has been changed to a 41 FCR.
Good woods bike?
I know it has the SEM ignition...

Thanks guys.

just about the best.... and a nice original example!

for green laning in europe I'd have to say:
the only bike to beat that would be a fully tuned 400 or a 2004 501.

regards

Taffy

bob(zilla) and Ken(Berger) run/ran it. ask them for more details.

Taffy

i ended up with the 03 from berger's garage. i rode it at the 09 gunnison event. i also had an 02 650. the 501 has more usable grunt on the bottom end than the 650 and less vibration. of course, the 650 power is addictive.

Seriously Ned? More low end grunt than the 650?
That's exactly the type of power I'm looking for. Low end grunt.
I think I'm pretty much sold on this bike.

I spoke with the owner on the phone again today for probably 45 minutes. He knows Husabergs pretty well and has helped out wrenching on them for--the name escapes me--the dealer in Vacaville.
He seems like a cool guy and has kept up on the maintenance of this bike.
He was a member on here during the early to mid 2000s.

The bike is at his ranch in Oroville right now and he is going to send me more pics of it next week when he gets out there, before I commit to buying it.

I just sold my 05 650 about a month ago. I got 4500.

by more low end grunt i mean it will leap out of a corner where the 650 rips and snorts out of a corner while shredding the knobs. maybe it's just the way i rode it, but i was always chasing the tail end of the bike.
were you talking to dan at motoexotica? if it's his bike, he should know it well.
