OEM bigend bearing has 18 rollers, 4mm dia and 15.6mm wide.

18 rollers in bigend pin
rollers are 15.75mm wide
and 4.5mm diameter.

Which doesn't seem to make sense, because the hotrod bigend bore is actually smaller than OEM... but I measured them twice

looking like myth busted on the 1mm shorter than OEM story, at least for some years
 
The 450 piston is a Wossner 8593DA.

Now I'm not certain if that 450 is '04 or '05 model, but it would seem that the 119 c-to-c conrod is the correct part for my engine.

I did notice that when I put that 450 crank complete with piston and liner,into my 470 case ,it is an exact fit, the piston deck is level with the liner... I thought that that should be atleast 2mm under the edge op the liner, since the 450 has shorter stroke than the
470. But I'm going off topic here
 
Now I'm not certain if that 450 is '04 or '05 model,

On the first picture (with the prox rod and piston) you showed 2004 engine.

In 2005, they changed the cooling holes to a wider.
Pic show 2005-2008 holes.

On the picture I see that OEM bearing has bigger gap between rollers.
 
Ah of course, I didn't even notice the cooling holes are different, I did notice that they seem to have made the casting little bit thicker at the main bearing for '05 onwards. And it seems also your observation on the spacing on the bigend rollers is correct. Anyhow, I hope this info is useful to you, as it seems the ProX and HotROD conrods do work.

Its strange that my 450, with 8593 piston and ProX conrod, the piston sits level with the liner, and yours was 1mm below??

It will be interesting to see if there was a difference then, between the 04 and the 05 conrod?
 
I still watching your picture and for me your piston is a little bit above liner. Maybe it's just an illusion.

My piston is level with the liner.

Yes, my piston was slightly above the liner.

I think I misunderstood you earlier, I thought your piston was 1mm below the liner.

Today I opened my engine - FE 450 E '04.
I look and there's con rod Prox 03.6423 and Wossner piston 8593D.
I bought motorcycle with this set. I drove him 10mth.
Everything worked great.
Strangely I did not notice that the piston was below the cylinder surface. A should be about 1mm?
I am writing this just for information.

It is possible then that 120mm conrod was for 470, but from what I've seen, it seems 470 also use 119mm conrod.

Unless the piston deck is supposed to be up into the head gasket.
 
As I see it.
The piston sits level with the liner.
Head gasket has a thickness 1,25mm
Compressed gasket has 0,95mm
So squish band = compressed head gasket thickness = 0,95mm = perfect? Right?

got stupid slow internet here ATM hacker33 maybe check the piston part numbers that go with the newer rod number

if they are the same as the piston listed for the old rod number I say the "1mm shorter for the 450" myth is busted unless the cases are taller

Piston is the same.
 
I have 04 and 05 and 02 FX470 cases, and the fit is the same on all cases.
 
So who let the rumor about the prox does not fit?:confused:

Next qestions: prox or hotrod?

If I use aftermarket conrod and piston I need to rebalnce the cranksaft - right?
Can somebody tell my how much is weight OEM piston and rod?
What balance factor is for 450?

trying to find a cheaper than original conrod kit for my -08 FE450. Seems to only be original or mx composites around.

I saw Taffmeister on ebay with the 1mm shorter conrod, but that does not feel right somehow.

Here in sweden the original conrod kit is about 360EUR and mx composites kit is about 1200EUR including taxes and stuff.

perhaps the little end has been modified on these particular (ebay) rods or the listing was supposed to be for the 350/400/470

i don't know for sure for the 450 but the OEM balance factor on the other bergs is 0.55

you should be fine balance wise with the aftermarket parts .. generally the manufacturers are not very imaginative and just copy the oem shapes.

I went for the HotROD because it has a brass little end bush, and I've been using HotRODs on Honda rebuilds for years, and never had any problems.
 
the prox rod kit found in that engine will have been supplied by me. I've been selling these kits for years. I think you need to read the advert again for what the kit does and doesn't fit as some of you are getting confused.

the prox works brilliantly and I haven't has one fail. they aren't a straight fit though and I have to work to earn my money! the pins are sent away and re-engineered.

as for the little end, well steel on steel is fine. it's the bushes from Husaberg you need to avoid as they appear to be made from marzipan! so given that the Japs have done this for half a century we really ought to trust that they know something.
