It's hard to get an accurate answer as the frame is tappering in at that point where the top shock mounts. Plus I have plastic frame guards on which look about 4 ~ 8mm thick. Plus the frame tube is not square it is on an angle

I reckon outside measurement is 240mm wide about midway where the top shock mount is.
Could probably get some better measurements when Dales tank get's here. Just as long as you are not in a hurry Bushie?

Berglsmerg, the mind boggles at what could come out of Bushies shed. :D Sidecar to burn Taffy off? :D

just compiling frame stats and thinkin a lot  I can save 6-7 kgs with a new frame but then I also have the opourtinity to make it a nicer shape as well. so the dilemma is to go for a perimiter setup, that makes everything easy and the tank doesn't have to be so strong or go for a single spar upper thats the lightest smartest way but then the ergos and the tank structural problems become more complex.

240 sounds about the norm thanks Davo, everyones copying each other ATM and have settled around there. 10 years ago it was 200mm...... I really like the narrow steel perimiter KX frames from 98-99 but the new KTM SX bikes are nice single spar uppers.

pics sometime soon.

some inspiration.

forgot to say that at first the new bike felt wide and funny to stand on, as if it was trying to make you ride bow legged, or it did for me.

Then i found that you can almost lock your legs infront of the frame spars above the pegs and stand there all day.

i'm used to it now.
