08 Fuel Tank

I believe the stock 08 fuel tanks are 10.5 liters. My 05 has 9 liters. Will the 08 tank fit on my bike and I wonder how much it is? I know it may not seem cost effective to add only 1.5 liters but it is enough for an extra 13 miles or so. That and maybe an auxiliary tank would give me 3.4 gallons . I don't want the 4 gallon tank right now.

The tanks are the same from '06 to present. It will bolt right up to your '05. I upgraded my '05 without issue. You will need the new style shrouds as well.

The newer style tank helps with air flow past the radiator (look at the shroud shape), and my bike runs noticeable cooler. That 's a better benefit than the slight increased fuel capacity.

Thanks John. I suppose you are using the 06 shroud graphics also because I believe the side of the tank is a little different shape. You know our 05's have a distinct graphic design so in your opinion how does it look now with tank graphics a little different? That is unless you have the 05 stickers on the newer tank shrouds

All tanks, seats and plastic fits all models from 2000 to 2009 (not including 09 of course).
When using the new tank, introduced in 06, you also need the new shrouds (with the appropriate decals of course).

It looks just a 2006 Husaberg, because I used the stock 2006 shroud decals. You could use the 2007 or 2008 decals too. They are all the same shape.

Thanks,
For now I ordered two 1 liter MSR aluminum fuel bottles. I'm thinking of a little experiment. In the area where the auxilary tank mounts, instead fabricate fuel bottle holders. Whether I can get 1 or two in there remains to be seen until they arrive by mail. One could go in the backpack if needed, but I want both liters under the seat if possible. Thats more than the newer tank and almost as much as the auxilary. I usually stop anyway a few times on a big ride. Just pull the seat, unhook fuel bottles, dump in and go for another 17 miles or so. The bottles were 15 dollars each and I should get 100 total miles with them along with the stock tank. With smaller rides, just leave them out.

Thought I would pick up this old thread.
I haven't upgraded to the 06 larger fuel tank yet. And you know it is only 1 liter and a half or so more than the 05.
Other thing is that I like my tank and graphic design. So what I have done as an experiment was to strap a 33 oz msr fuel bottle directly opposite the slip on exhaust. I used mini fire extinguisher straps that work great and
mounted it right under the seat there. It even looks Iike it won't rub on the tire. I will have to see as this is
just a preliminary set up for now. And if it doesn't rub, well then I have about the same amount of fuel as the
tank upgrade with the bottle in a relatively inconspicuous place.
Also, I would like to know if anyone has an auxiliary fuel tank for sale. I haven't seen them in a while.

Pollo go boom. Just kidding. :D

Remember that the '06-'08 tank is more than just bigger capacity. It allows better airflow through the radiator--a noticeable improvement. That funky circle in the newer style shrouds is definitely functional.

Thanks for the replies.
This morning I was set for another experiment. So I went out in the garage and made a template to the shape
that I was going to copy today for a custom fuel bottle to fit in that space under the seat.
So I went to the shop and scoped out possibilities. I got 2 empty stainless steel quart cans. I took the one and
sliced it open but saving the lid and bottom. The other I cut the side of to user a a sheet.
I tack welded it together in the desired shape and also used some unused pieces so cover up large holes.
Then the glass. I used fiberglass mat and cloth and covered it after grinding the metal.
The capacity is exactly 1/2 gallon.
Brought it home and needed to grind some as it was a little to big. I got it to fit as you can see in the pictures.
I also needed to re-glass some areas as I needed to beat in slightly the container to fit around the shock.
It is in the final stages now. Just a few small tweeks.

It's not designed to be a bomb #9
So I'll tell you. I don't think any extreem heat is going to set it off. Hope not anyway. I have it clear of
the shock and secured so it won't fall out.
I am going to give it a test run off road with water in it first.
Then with fuel. I will not top it off either, leaving some space in there.
I will use a filter screen just in case when pouring it in my tank.
If all works out ok then I wil prime with corrosion resistant primer and paint with automotive
paint so fuel doen't eat it.
I don't usually need extra fuel, but there have been certain occations where I would have like more.
This bottle will give me 15 to 20 miles more.

And there is a chance that this fuel bottle will just be the prototype. You see, I have access
to an aluminum welder. At this point I haven't learned to weld with it but this friend who I just painted a
van for will teach me. Once I get this fiber bomb set will be the time to contemplate true custom.
I could follow the pattern easily and weld together at least a half gallon aluminum fuel bottle to fit in there.
I'm sure you would love that one #9

I was going to upgrade to the larger tank and shrouds at one time.
But now is not that time.
I just spent a lot of money getting my bike back together after having the gearbox
repaired.
The custom sized aluminum fuel bottle is in the works. The fiberglass one made a good
mock up after all to copy with auminum.
