Is Husaberg out of business?

Hello,

I have read about the merger with Husqvarna, and being bought by KTM... but my local dealer just told me that Husaberg is now out of business and moving forward, only KTM and Husqvarna will make bikes.

Any truth to this?

Ktm bought husaberg. Ktm produced your husaberg. Ktm stopped producing husaberg in 2014. Now they produce Husqvarna. The shop you are dealing with has never really been great for berg parts. There are lots of resources for parts. Did you buy your 650 from a guy named George? Rekluse clutch and the kicker not quite working proper?

That would be the one. Kicker fixed now (I hope). You are about the 4th person to figure out where I got the bike before I said anything. Hmm... either this bike is (in)famous, or George is!

It's the same people and workshop, Husaberg just changed name to Husqvarna. The Husqvarna technology was sold to gasgas I believe.

I was at that factory as that was where my 610 was made. The original technology that was started by Husqvarna was acquired by Cagiva (and continued by Husaberg/aquired by KTM ) and is now available to Shineray (Chinese) and they now build Cagiva/Husqvarna technology engines at the same plant licenced to Shineray.

I hate to say it but I feel Husaberg as a brand died in 2013. When KTM turned them into Blue KTM's. And now that KTM has Husqvarna I don't see them keeping Husaberg around much longer.

I remember hearing about KTM buying Husaberg and my first thought was, "Well that sucks". But there was a sense of hope because of how they were using the brand. Husaberg was allowed to separate themselves from the KTM's name by being the experimental guinea pig for KTM. Those 70 degree engine may have been KTM engines but Husaberg made them their own.

I frequently wondered about what Husaberg was to KTM. After all I doubt KTM was all that pleased about being beaten in almost every aspect by their own underling. Part of me thinks they simply bought them to eliminate their competition. Even though I know that is not the case.

I can't even find the (new) bikes on there. I am guessing that they pulled them a few weeks ago (they used to have their model line up on the site... no longer).

Hopefully they keep the service manuals and whatnot on the site (they are still there now, but I hope they remain).

LOL has anyone went over to the Husaberg site lately...?

Some of the manuals were gone last I checked. They cannot be trusted to archive and curate the manuals as they have almost no incentive to do so (imo they have shown to not really recognize the incentive of honour).

Us owners have found and assembled most of the manuals in existence! Really the only thing that I know is missing is the 2-stroke repair manuals and the post-2011 4-stroke repair manuals. And that's not really a crucial omission as those models are well covered by either older manuals or KTM ones. (Still haven't found a way to crack the copy protection on the '11 repair manual CD except to write a script to take a screenshot / turn the page / take a screenshot / turn the page).

The manuals can and will be found here on this site, and on Google Drive - and in the future also on Dropbox, as well as on an Amazon Glacier Arq archive which is essentially nuke-proof.

Right on, that's good. I have a nice binder with all hardcopies of my manuals.

I did some reading... I suppose Husaberg is done as of now. If anyone else is interested, check out:

IS TIME RUNNING OUT FOR GAS GAS?

KTM officially announce they have no intention to buy Gas Gas. So what now for the Spanish manufacturer?

In an official document, written in Spanish and signed by both KTM AG Director Hubert Trunkenpolz and Cesar Rojo the Director of KTM Sportmotorcycles Spain, KTM have announced that they have 'no intention to acquire the brand Gas Gas'.

With speculation growing within Spanish media regarding the options open to Gas Gas as it seemingly struggles to raise the finances needed to pay off its debts, it's written that the company's debt stands at around 24 million Euro. A reported immediate payment of five million Euro is needed in order for the debt to be refinanced. This refinancing of the debt (apologies if weve said the word debt a few too many times already!) is needed in order to reactivate production at the factory.

With KTM keen to distance themselves from any possible investment or buy out options regarding Gas Gas, little is known about what Gas Gas' options are or the timescale they have in which to find investors in order to repay the monty they owe.

Here's hoping they're able to dig themselves out of hole they're in and resume normal day-to-day manufacturing activities.

The below is a direct translation of the official KTM letter...

In reference to the rumors of the last several days which continued in the form of articles published in certain media, we in KTM AG would wish to make clear that there is no intention by our company to acquire the brand Gas Gas.

KTM AG group is for the time being fully dedicated to its two brands, KTM and Husqvarna, extending the current model range, while maintaining the high level of innovation and developing a large number of projects planned in the short and medium term in the enduro, motocross and street segments, totally disregarding the incorporation of new brands to the group.
