Engine rebuilt, blowing smoke

Just had the motor rebuilt, new mains, rings, new gaskets throughout.
Smoked on first fire up which I expected but won't clear. Big puff of white/grey smoke as I blip the throttle. Motor feels tight and powerful but seems very hot and stinks of oil. End of exhaust black oily soot, quite wet
Any ideas?

Did you have the cylinder checked for round and size? Might have needed a cylinder also.

Could also something this the valve seals. Many possible number of things.

Good luck.

Engine stripped, checked everything. Phoned, emailed everyone I knew and all said with the symptoms I discribed it had to be the oil ring so replaced it and refitted motor.... no smoke! Gave the old ring to an engineering friend who could find nothing wrong with it other than it may not have been tempered correctly? Bizarre!
Sorted!
