Looking for feed back on pro-x conrod kit. put one in my 05 450 only lasted 3000km hard facing came of pin it looks soft also notice that oil hole is 180 deg out compered to OME pin. Hav installed another pro-x kit will see how long this one lasts.

I'm confused,why would you put a second rod in if the first didn't last?

Its good to hear some feedback regarding the ProX conrods.
You could also try the HotROD conrod kit this time and see if that lasts longer?

It may also have something to do with the location of the lubrication hole casusing the premature failure, it wood be good to hear some knowledgeable opinions regarding that? I think I read something about it in another thread, but I don't recall which.

not 100% sure of the detailed dimensions .. will have a look later

remember there is the gas gas 515 wossner piston that should go with this rod to get the CR and squish back.

Can you post a pic? I noticed the prox is not as nicely finished as the OME one.
 
Not many details, but basic details from the HotRODS catalogue

Center to center 119.1mm
small end 20mm
big end 41
s/e width 19.9
b/e width 19.9
pin dia 32
pin lenght 64.7
s/e bearing : brass bush
b/e bearing 32x41x19.8

seems they are using some other big end bearing which is 1mm smaller @ 41mm, instead of the standard 42mm
I may get one later this week, if i do, will post some pics, measure the b/e rollers, and count the number of rollers, etc.
 
This info is for me a blow in the back.
For a while it turns out that Hot Rod is also crap and will need to buy OEM rod.
 
why is the hotrods crap ?

I visit the ktm RFS forum daily ... its used regularly in RFS build in preference to the pro-x because it has a bronze little end bush.

just one thread on it KTMTalk.com - The Absolute BEST KTM resource on the planet, DJH has built close to a 1000 rfs engines i trust his opinion.

wiseco have one as well apparently

you still don't have to buy the oem rod, get Carrillo to make you one, $330 for a STD one off carburised rod.

since the ktm rod is the wrong length anyway that's what I would do.

you could measure your squish with the stock rod and ask for a slightly longer rod to close up the squish to 1mm or so.

I keep forgetting but Orangeberg can also get you a rod kit same dimensions as the oem

330$ + shipping + tax this is the same or maybe higher cost as the OEM rod at my KTM/Berg dealer. New OEM rod cost me +/- 400$
 
with the shorter rod and the stock piston your squish will be 2.2mm or so instead of 1.2 and the compression ratio will be about right for fitting a turbo :)

I wouldn't use a shorter rod unless I had a taller piston to get back up to the top

the wossner gas gas 515 piston has the right specs (see other thread) but might need some light "machining" .. I really don't think it will need anything on the top as the gas gas valves are nice and big, underneath needs checking as well but you can tickle that up with a die grinder.

again .. orangeberg can get a rod the same as oem .. not sure of the price though
 
I'm thinking out loud.
OEM 450 piston: Comp. height. 24.30mm + dome volume.
Gasgas piston: Comp. height. 25.50mm

If the piston is lower but has a dome it is possible that it will give us the same compression ratio like taller piston without a dome?

yes thats right

the best piston specs are in the 2014 wossner catalog which include piston dome or dish volume as + or - cc ... or for a flat top they spec zero which doesn't include the valve pockets but its close enough.

the head volume is approx 36 - 38cc and the headgasket ID is 101.3mm, it compresses to about 1.25mm thick

then use bore and stroke to work out the compression ratio
