I made the same mistake, but made it a different way. After bleeding my clutch system with the bike on a work stand, I started it up. The rear wheel spun with the transmission in neutral. "Holy cow!" I thought. "I've boogered this thing up!"
Nope, I didn't. The amount of movment at the slave cylinder is really tiny, for one thing. These bikes tend to have a lot of clutch drag for another, especially when the motor oil is cold. REALLY especially when the bike is new and the motor oil is cold. Turns out I just needed to let the bike warm up, and doggone if I didn't have a fully functioning clutch system.
