I'll start.
09 FE570
100 hrs approx 2000 miles.
Bike flamed out on me 1/2 dozen times in the first 30 hours. Adlusted the idle and had the ECM reflashed, no problems since.
Changed the drive chain at 70 hours due to a little surface rust (no sprockets).
That's it.
Change the oil about every 15 hours. Clean the air filter after every ride. Lube the chain every ride.
No valve adjustment yet. I have never ever had the tank or shrouds off yet.
Going on the 3rd set of tires.

I may have to spring for a new set of hand grips and suspension service soon..

my $0.02 about early 09's
mine has 3500 km and 90 hours
Cam chain tensioner weak
MLS head gasket weak
Drive Chain too long from factory
Headlight weak beam
Some cams have weak ADC
Lower shock Heim joint wears out quick
Wiring harness rubs in places ( especially shock resivoir )
Undersprung from factory ( that is if you are biger than a jockey )
Seldom need valve lash adjustments but it dont hurt to check, also shim style is a pain in the a$$
Crappy in tank fuel filter
Seat foam deteriorates quickly
Seat latch will fill up with sand and jam
Water ingress into air filter when doing high speed water crossings and aqua-planing.
Too much fun, gets me in the $h!t with the MRS

ahhh.... yea, my lady who I made my wife 2 months ago for better or berg, for richer or drunker (is that a word ?), in good health or hungover as f#ck. Carn ! Lets see some worthwhile input, and perhaps solutions to the problems. Even little ****, the 11 bergs still carry some of the original shortcomings. Helllooooooooooooooo Taff are you there ?

Here is our team issue log so far after about 50,000km rallye racing the new Bergs

3 x ’09 570’s for 2009 Condo 750 rallye @ 1,000km ea - top bike was 6th outright
Issues were - fuel injector blockage x 2 (one just after the event)

3 x ’09 570’s for 2009 Yilgarn Rallye @ 800km ea - top bike was 3rd outright
Issues were - fuel injector blockage x 1

6 x ’09 570’s for 2009 Safari @ 4,000km ea - top bike was 7th outright
Issues were
head gasket leaking x 5
conrod big end bearing x 1
piston seize x 1 but this one also had the head gasket go big time so was linked
subframe mounts crack x 1 this is the metal tag on the frame where the subframe bolts to

1 x ’09 570 for 2010 Dakar @ 2,500km
No issues

1 x ’09 570; 3 x ’10 570; 2 x ’10 450 for 2010 Safari @ 3,500km ea - top bike was 4th outright (this was the ’09 motor)
Issues were
head gasket leaking x 2 solid copper TR ones, went back to OEM with Hylomar gluing
conrod big end bearing x 1 ’09 570 motor
TPS sensor x 1
engine oil sight glass leaking x 1 but not a critical one
clutch cover gasket leaks x 2 (weeping only)
subframe mounts crack x 1
stator cover weeping x 3

Fuel injector blockage issue has been cured by using the Profill fuel pump filter kit http://www.profill-australia.com/ coupled with a CanAm external inline fuel filter part # 709000100 placed in fuel line at QD junction before the injector, so it has 3 filters in total, since doing this no injector issues

Head gasket leakage issue has been cured by using Hylomar gluing the laminates together and on the gasket surfaces to both head & barrel…………BUT must keep an eye on the radiator water levels to make sure all is ok

’09 conrod big ends…………..don’t know re this one, except the 2010 motors haven’t done it, it has occurred twice at about 2,500km, both with early 2009 production run motors, so ???

TPS issues, word is it affects KTM’s such as the new 350SXF as well but not heard of it before on the Bergs till this one failed

Other known issues

They will pump oil into the air filter box from the crankcase breather unless you block the vent and re-route the vent hose to the back lower part of the bike

The fuel pump has gone on a couple of local bikes but not any of ours

Fuel tanks need to be flushed to remove residue before use

Good information. Interesting.

I had a bad fuel pump and I've gone through two spark plugs in 30 hours. That's about it. Valves are still in spec.

Does anyone know of a Profill dealer on this side of the planet? I'd like to buy a set.

It looks like the shipping is $2.50 US. from them direct. Not too bad of a price.

That's a deal! I saw the store was closed, but I now see that's only temporarily. Thanks.

On behalf of a few lurkers I know I would like to Thank you Gazza for sharing your hard earned findings

since the safari came through there is a bit of interest in the 570 and this kind of stuff is exactly what they are looking for.

I keep telling them the 628 should be more robust but they don't believe me

Just out of curiosity do you suppose it was the female condom that inspired the invention of the Profill Ultra Filter or was it more likely the other way around?

Shipping from down under is cheaper than shipping within the US.....at least it was when I bought mine

well tell them from me the '07 & '08 FE650's were a very stong bike & engine, here is the issues log we had after 36,000 km rallye racing

'07 Safari 2 x '07 650 @ 5,500km ea - zero OEM issues, I did a motor on day 2 due to the added external oil cooler line breaking and dropping all the oil :( , but no OEM issues at all top bike 8th outright

'08 Condo 750 2 x '08 650 + 1 x '07 650 @ 850km ea - zero issues

'08 Safari 3 x '08 650 + 1 x '07 650 @ 4,500 km ea - zero issues top bike 10th outright

'09 Condo 750 1 x '07 650 @ 800km - zero issues

'09 Yilgarn Rallye 1 x '08 650 + 1 x '07 650 @ 500km ea

'09 Safari 2 x '08 650 @ 4,000km - zero issues top bike 5th outright

so after 36,000km rallye racing over 3 seasons we never touched a single motor or bike re OEM parts breaking, and thats with 3 top 10 Safari finishes  damn fine motorcylces, our mechanics had it easy :D

thanks guys think i will get a fuel filter soon
in 5000 km my tally is
one head gasket(at 500km) which only leaked at big revs (middle of simpson desert) fixed with 3 bond.
frame rubbing hole in fuel tank (engine mount bracket ?)
standard springs too soft (felt ok but spent heaps of time on arse or doing the rag doll
thermo fan unable to maintain good contact on sensor after getting bogged on simpson trip, tried heaps of things but put in a manual switch
3 kill switches
radiator shrouds prone to ripping off , cable tied inwards a little bit
does any one else have grass seeds etc getting stuck in the air filter? i always put a chux cloth over filter and stuff the excess where the fuel hose comes up
best mod expected to be 22mm offset triple clamps & heavier springs, rekluse clutch takes the edge off the fuel injection / compression braking

Thanks Gazza, top stats I love the 628 engine

will tell em but I bet they will still go for the 570 "because husabergs are more reliable now"

was that in a magazine somewhere? :D :D

Lower shock Heim joint wears out quick

That is no different than for KTM. There is a very very simple remedy, just a finger full of grease inside the seals and the heim lasts forever. The problem is that the teflon liner works fine so long as it is clean. Easy enough to keep clean on the street but not offroad. Belray Waterproof Grease seems to work just fine.

get one of these instead - CanAm external inline fuel filter part # 709000100 placed in fuel line at QD junction before the injector

Looked at one of these but what worries me is the possibity of the hoses popping off given thet the fuel pressure runs around 50psi. I wouldn't trust standard worm drive hose clips and if you use the stronger crimp-on type then it becomes a PITA removing the tank. Hard to judge exactly how big the filter is from the picture on the website, is there enough room to fit this filter in addition to the OE fuel connector?

There are removable and reusable hose clamps for high pressure applications such as EFI, even used by many OEMs. Check any auto parts store or buy them from a place like Summit Racing.
