Can someone please tell me how to engage or query the FI Blink Code feaure? The manual for my 2011 FE570S has a whole page on how to interpret the flashes, but not a word on how to get start the feature. How do you turn on the blink codes, please?

I don't think that they can be turned off. The light just flashes when there is an issue.

Hey Ruger,
Sorry I didn't answer your PM last week, I was in self exile cause my mate got the arse off UHE for speaking up :D

Yes the FI light flashes the faults all the time. No need to turn it on.
when you first hit the starter the light comes on too. If yours is not doing that maybe there is something wrong with the bulb or wiring.

There is a 6 pin plug under the seat that is not connected to anything. Take the cover off the plug. Short out Pins 5 (Black/White Colour wire) and Pins 6 (Brown Colour wire). That will turn the ignition on and fire the EFI ECU up. This must be what the XC1 tool does as it plugs into that connector.
You can do a test first and pull out Fuse 2 (Fuel Pump Fuse) before shorting out pins 5 and 6 and you will see the FI Light flash the Fuel Pump error.

Davo, you're a very smart man, a generous one, and evidently an engineer. I, on the other hand, have never even seen the inside of an engineering classroom. (I can use a slide rule, though.) Thus, you might well have delivered your guidance in ancient Swahili, because I didn't understand enough to do anything with it.

Could be I simply vapor locked the thing, because it ran fine this morning. The FI blinked on when I turned the key, and then it turned off and the bike fired. So although I probably have no immediate problem, I still don't get it with regard to the blink code feature. If you could break it down using really small words, I'd be in your debt.

Thanks, Davo!

I am no engineer, just had a few too many years playing with injection on a mates race car and few of my boat motors.
Played with Electronics for probably 35 years.
I'm a crap bike rider too.

Start your bike and stop it so the fuel pressure is up. Pull the Fuel Pump Fuse and start your bike again.
You will see the FI Light flash 4 times long and 1 short flash.
Simple as that

4x long, 5x short = Lambda sensor heater circuit
9x short = Manifold absolute pressure sensor
1x long, 3x short = Intake air temperature
1x long, 2x short = Engine coolant temperature sensor
6x short = Throttle position sensor
1x long, 7x short = Lambda sensor
3x long, 3x short = Injector
2x short = Crankshaft position sensor
3x long, 7x short = Ignition coil
1x long, 5x short = Rollover sensor
4x long, 1x short = Fuel pump relay

does anyone have experience ?the fe 570, 09, stopped running while under full power? cranks fine but acts like no fuel is getting to the engine... starts for a second or two when left sitting overnight, checked fuses to pump, pump relay, and wires look ok... only has 2500 miles / 115 hours of every type of fun you can have on two wheels! thanks for any help/ ideas...

oh yeah! my blink code is one long, and one short...(not on the code list) Im thinking either fuel filter or something simple, the bike has been extremely bulletproof

Stock fuel pump? This sounds a lot like a bad fuel pump to me. Has your fuel pump been replaced?

The EFI Computer may be powering down before the blink code has finished blinking. So it maybe 1 x long and more than 1 short blink. Short out pin 5 and 6 in the XC1 connector as per above instructions. Try and start it and read the blink code again.
The EFI Computer is not smart enough to blink a code for the fuel filter.
Can you hear the Fuel Pump spinning after hitting the start button for 2 seconds?
Does the Spark Plug throw a spark?
Squirt some Aerostart down the Throttle Body while trying to start it. If it fires you will know it is fuel related.

Appreciate all of the info on the site. Picked up a 2011 berg 6 months ago and love it. Took it out snowbiking last saturday and during the ride the FI light came on and stayed on. Bike seemed to be bogging a little. The light then flashed quickly bike died on me. Looked around for awhile, making sure vent tubes weren't plugged. It all seemed fine, started up and ran fine for about an hour. FI light came back on when we headed out. I tried shorting the 5 and 6 pin and got no flashing lights. I'm leaning toward a thermostadt problem, coolant level is fine. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

not that I remember. Didn't realize the sequence was important at the time until I looked up the info here. I'm going to change the thermostat and I'll pay attention to that next time I go out. Most of the the FI light was just on solid, and then it flashed before it died.
