I Ordered A Few Jets The Other Day For My Dellorto. Spoke To Gary Grover And Explained What I've Done And Doing To The Bike,Told Him It Was A Pig To Start. He Said That Some '01's Had A Little Jet Missing And That It Made It Real Hard To Start Hot Or Cold,So I Get It Along With The Rest.
My Problem Is Where Does The Jet Marked CDI Go? 8O Pilot?Main?Start?

I Wouldnt Say It Was Little,About An Inch Long,Very Narrow Looks Like A Tube That Goes Under The Jet,Looks Like It Directs The Fuel Better And More Accuratly Into The Carb,If You Know What I Mean.
Really Made A Difference Starting The Bike,I Managed To Start It On The Second Kick When Cold,Something We've Never Been Able To Do.
With The Second Hand Cam A Couple Of Jets She Seemed Very Smooth,
Controled And Quite Quick,Meet A Friend On A DR650 And In A Straight Drag Keeped Up With Him,Which Was Nice,Very Wobbly Around The Bends And Ruts With Tired Wheel Bearings,Soft Suspension And A Near Flat Front Tyre Though.
Get These Sorted And A Little More Fine Tuning,Should Be Back On Form.

Thanks Husabutt,One Day I'll Get This Computer Lark Sorted
Bad Drawing I Know,But Does That Help?

It is the Idle Emulsion tube. Apparantly only comes in one size. Was your bike missing this part?

Yes,All Ways A Pig To Start,Needed To Fettle The Chock To Get It To Fire.
Smoothed Out The Carb As Well,No Nasty Surges

but, but, but!

the ET is above the main jet! and the MJ screws into it whereas the PJ screw into.....??????

The "Emulsion Tube" above the main is officially called an Atomizer in the Dellorto nomenclature. Same difference really.

Also a little further digging reveals: "Idle emulsion tube Not fitted to all models"

Son of a gun :?

I Was Told By Mr Grover That If You Take The Pilot Jet Out And If You See An Empty Hole Straight Into The Venturi Its Missing.
If You Look Further Down The Hole You Should See The Thread Goes Nearly All The Way To The Bottom,The CDI Screws Into This.
Its Really Thin And Quite Easy To Cross If Your Not Paying Attention.
Had To Use A Very Thinf/Small Electritions Screw Driver.
Dont Know If It Has Any Performance Gains By Using It,But My Old Mans Dodgey Hips And Back Will Thank It

After reading this post I decided to take the Delorto apart on my 99 FE600E and check out this CD1 jet. I had a hard time getting it out because it was binding. Once out I cleaned up the threads with a tap and cleaned the orifice with aerosol brake cleaner. I then removed the venturi ring on the front of the carb in order to get to the front entrance of the same orifice. I blew everything out thoroughly with compressed air.

Results are excellent. The bike starts right up and the dead spot when the throttle is wicked open is gone. These same problems existed on my sons 98 501 and we never did get them ironed out before he was forced to sell it due to a riding injury.

One thing I believe is critical here is that the CD jet seats against the bottom of the orifice. Because the threads are so small and made from aluminum the CD1 jet can bind up when putting it in or taking it out which in turn will not allow it to seat properly at the bottom of the orifice leaving a small air space between the jet and the base of the orifice.

Emulsion tubes that froth the fuel are most often used in 4 stroke applications and left out on 2 strokes

just to be clear that this jet is called the CD1 (one) jet.
