I have been only riding bugger all in the last 6 years, just plodding about in the area and last week got caught in a bog, well my lungs are crap and my endurance is crap and I can only ride for an hour or I am too smashed to walk, knees and back are roo ted.

We have a lot of rain and the grass is taking over the tracks and I can not see over the grass, it must be 7ft high in some spots, if I did not know the tracks well one would not know they were their ! oh and the f ing spiders ! I am still quick to grab them across your face, lost count of how many I killed that day, no one has been down were I went for some time as you will be chased out nowadays. it's old mining grounds and now used as toxic dumping ground. So I go out to sniff around and see what they are up to, that's one reason for keeping the bike.
But riding is fun, but for when you get stuck, Battery is dead and I can not afford to buy a new one so kick starting can become a pain, be buggered if I kick it over with my left foot and with my right I have to find a spot higher to stand on to kick it over.
Anyway in the bog I could not get over to the left side to start it. so had to drag it out.

Hell I have given up on getting all my riding gear on, because I will be to roo ted to go riding, so what if I come off ?
I went riding only because it was a cool day, so I though f it I am going !

But any of you dudes what was it that you gave it away ?

F me if I could I would be out riding everyday, it's the best thing in the world, hill climes and way out bush riding. but I don't have a ute anymore to get out their.

Sorry mate, I feel your pain, but the day you stop should be the day you stop it all!!!!
I ride mountain bikes with an 82 year old- inspiring! You GOTTA keep fit- not just to ride, but to live! I have 5 acres to look after, just pulling weeds out keeps me fit- and stuffed!
Don't you feel younger when you ride? So keep that battery charged, ride more, wear your gear, get a good loop together, riding more will make you fitter, and let you ride more!
What was that old t- shirt? Live to ride, ride to live? Probably copyrighted by someone..........

I'd suggest that you take lessons or ride with a very experienced rider. I took ouit all newbies at my club for 2-3 years and took them to the right locations and taught them how to ride efficiently.

the top riders don't just get pounded, they ride better too.

I can still go out with younger riders and come home fresher.

cheers

Taffy

When to Stop? For me left knee replacement 2015, and had my left kidney removed January 4th. Pretty sure that's it for me, one kidney and all. Looking at buying a bigger boat.

I am trying to think of anyone who is more experienced than me in riding endure o bikes.

I got to 48yo and then started not to push myself full on riding. Gets hot here, that last day was only 31 C degrees. So being a cool day I went out.

I think Taf means fast guys! I rode a few times with Geoff Ballard and some of his team guys, what a eye opener! Making yourself smooth and not beating yourself around on the bike- I stand up just about all the time now, thought it would wear me out but just the opposite, you aren't wasting effort pushing yourself up off the seat and it's easier to catch slides.
It makes you feel good to keep up with the young guys- make one of them feel sorry for you and get him to take you riding!

I did not finish what I was going to say above, when a mate up the road came knocking demanding to drink. we are both retired:ninja:

A mate rang me once and said that he had just seen a dude, that was even faster then me, that was the first time in his life that he seen anyone like that and I said I have told you before, that their are some people who have even surprised me.
And I started riding 1973.

That mate who rang me, it was Toby Price that he had just seen go past him. he said this bloke would even beat me ! he was serious. That was about 10 years ago say.
So I need no one to teach me how to ride and I have no intentions of keeping up with anyone nowadays. and Yes standing up is as you say.

When you get older it's that you may be worn out is what I am on about, so one only has X amount of years that you have to ride real well and enjoy it, so I say enjoy such ! because the days will come that you just will never be able to enjoy like you once did.
Hell I want to ride all day and do hill climbs and I am on about the bigger the climbs the better, well not all day just doing that but I did love such a challenge.
The way my knees are now I would not be able to walk after taking on such, I am flat out getting about after an hour plod about on the bike. I wonder if I can make it up the stairs, I would have to get the wife to drag me up :tongue1:

Give push bikes a go- I went back after pushy racing as a teenage motocrosser for training to mountain bikes 10 or so years ago and love it- great for your knees and back. Start slow and work up- I'm almost the youngest in the group at 64 and as I said up to 82! Even a cheapo bike works good- I'll bet you've got one in the shed.

No I would not ride a pushbike at all, I hate them, I road a push bike to school 7miles to and 7 back from grade 3.

A mate 60 has a new electric push bikes for some years, hotted one up and blew it up under warranty. just a road one. I said no ! push bikes are far to dangerous to ride on the roads around here and he had a scooter before that and I said anyone who rides a scooter is a total moron, they are a death trap ! you can not control crap like that.

I seen on the news of late a dude doing a wheel stand on the highway just showing off with one foot on the seat on the highway and some prick recorded him and it made the news.

Well they went mental about it and wanted to know, carrying on like Nazi morons demanding who he is ( it's me ) :D but they say such a one could go to Jail for 3 years for doing such as that, come off it they are pissing into the wind.

Hang on ! I would rather do wheel stands for a mile or 2 on the road than ride a scooter on the highway any day !

Just because they could not fathom that one could be in total control doing such, it's easy once you get the knack of it, not to mention some bikes are magic to do so and some are not.

Not to mention I went to help a 90yo out, he drives at 80KM/H max on the 110km/h Highway and he has to follow me, so I have to do 80 and f me dead is that frighting to do that stunt I thought some c--t was going to run me off the road ! never again ! f that ! I would rather drive 200km/h on that 4 lane highway at least I would be in control, farting along at 80KM/H you are a sitting duck in fact.

A friend Rod quit at 83 Years old bad eyes bad balance. I miss riding with him he made a better rider

Lungs are full off air, have no care. So twist the throttle more.
Never stop, it’s what I live for. Road, track & free bush all round our beautiful country.

Buy a downhill & get your fitness back.
Buy a battery, if you can’t kick the bitch.
Buy another bike. But never stop riding
