Hmmm, left hand starter, right hand sprocket, can't think what else that engine would fit in to?

Now that is an interesting proposition. During the summer months I was thinking what can I do to make an even faster supermoto. Although the berg is quick, pretty darn quick compared to most SM's out there, there is always the desire for that little bit more and I couldn't come up with anything light enough that would fill the gap. I seriously lookind into putting a RGV 250 engine into the Berg frame, Stan Stephens in UK can tune them to 70+ bhp with ease, I had one, but it was just too long due to being a V twin. A 700cc 2 stroke single has to be a monster of an engine. Unfortunately I can't imagine them being cheap, Taffy, your a side car man, can you get you mits on one?

Anyone interested a 700cc engine, this is the guy that builds them: Axel Kostler in germany

a 650 can be taken out to a 700....... with good reliability, good power.........monster torque what else could you want from a supermoto?? plus its your origional cases :D

maybe the best way to make use of the similarities between the 2 bikes is to put a 700 berg engine in the maico chassis 8O

!Maico Motorcycles "Made in Germany" !
Since more than 25 years we prepare special Maico bikes.Since 1999 we are the one and only producer off those fantastic two stroke Maico Motorcycles. We love to do this very special job and each time when a brand new motorcycle runs for the first time it is like the first cry off your own baby :))

this is brilliant! so German - so emotional!!!!

BTW lads, latest word is that these engines (Husaberg 700) are like eggs..... some people just won't listen will they?

the walls have ears but naturally I couldn't hold back from telling y'all.

Is there two companys selling 2010 bikes under the Maico name?, seems like there is U.K company with a really nice updated Maico and one out of Germany selling ones that look like they have for years.

If a 650 is not enough, buy a 550 - an Aprilia 550 that is.

I understand that the RXV and SXV make amazing amounts of power, especially above 7K RPM (13K redline) and can be modded to make quite a bit more. I rode an RXV this last weekend off-pavement and off-road. It had a Rekluse, but it just made too much power to be usable for the kind of technical trails I ride. I didn't really open it up because I didn't want to crash someone else's $10K bike, so I didn't experience the power on the top end as I would short shift before 7K, but it had plenty of power at the bottom end too.

I like my 570 and prefer it for trails, but for a streetable bike that would be light enough to occasionally take off-road if I so felt like it, and something I think would be a blast with SM wheels/tires on it, this just made it to my short list of replacements for my Ducati. Ever since I got my 570 I have thought about how much nicer a light bike handles in the twisties and how much of a handful the Ducati is by comparison (although it is nice in other ways on the pavement, especially for all day or longer rides).

For off-road, I don't need more power than my 570, except for maybe the dunes or a snowbike, where the Aprilia would be nice too.

I used to think that too

have heard from guys who have ridden both bikes that the 650 berg craps all over the stock prilla 550

stock 650 squish, comp ratio cam profile and head flow rates are way lower than possible if you wanted to tune it up

if the 650 isn't enough I say consider a billet head from sweden, an insane lift cam, custom exhaust at least a high comp piston and thinner head gasket, lighter parts and consider stroking it or enlarging the bore.

It's only taken me 200 goes but I finally worked out how to paste a photo after reading Dales post (Dale E O's 09 570) :D

Thanks husabutt you are a legend

most the mx tracks i've seen is only really suited to no more than a 250cc 2stroke,so surely trying to ride a 700cc 2 stroke would be out of the question.
its not registerable so you wouldn't be able to ride it out the bush.
i've seen blokes trying to ride kx & cr 500's on dirt track & they spend more time spralled out over the track, forever picking themselves back up again,so i couldn't see it would be any good at that.
maybe if maico made them registerable they might get a few buyers....dunno?
so really you buy something like this to park in your lounge room, cause it really is a useless bike.
one for the yuppies to pull their dicks over.
..weed..

I think how the power is spread around is very important

in deep WA sand with a paddle that bike in my gallery with 160rwhp isn't too much because its nicely spread over a large rev range and comes with endless tourque whenever you want it. in the dunes my 650 feels like a PW50 compared to that thing and 160HP WFO is only just enough at times.

so IF the 700 2 stroke was setup like a 250 on roids yes it would suck and be hard to ride but if it makes enough useable tourque spread over a wide enough range to allow less shifting and less clutch work it should be easier to ride even on hardpack.

I find the 250 2strokes hard to ride becasue they drop off the pipe so easy in the sand, its WFO 95% of the time lots of clutchwork and shifting up and down, drives me nuts. they do handle nice though.

by comparison I just stick the berg in 4th and grunt around the same track that has the 250 screaming its piston skirt off and frying its clutch.

I dunno really about that maico thing, if i had the cash id stick 2 maicos in the shed for weed to ride if he comes over :D

I've been doing that over Husey for years!

and it's only a 400   (you know what they say about little engines...)

As said they are effectivly a Zabel Sidecar motor actually not 700cc infact 685cc, build from a old generation maico motor. The motors are quick and design to pull 2 people on a outfit, the bike will be ideal to play around on in the desert and dunes but will be horrible for trail riding and mx. The frame is the same frame Maico used in their late 80's bike and my coach tried one of the "2009" spec Maico 500 out last year at Tonymoto mx track in England and said the handling was horrible and frame had mega flex issues!!!

Stick with the Bergs fellas.

Ben Blythe was running one last year (now has a husaberg) and says the husey is more usable EVERYWHERE. says that there was no correlation between the hand and the movement. they were disconnected. he comes from waterlooville (down your way). he says that he got an ignition company involved and they lashed one up that transformed the motor. reckons it was the business! owner/electronics man took it away to make it spot on and he never saw him again!!!!

ooh yeah what I said :D  lets tune up some of these 650's the yuppies can pull whatever they want

If anyone seriously wants to try one of those maico "700" engines then as Taffy says look on the sidecarcross forum and also ebay, look out for a Zabel 685 motor, these a right hand kickstart maico "700" and came out in the early 90''s and are exactly the same as these new motors. My dad use to run these motors back in the british sidecar champs in early to late 90's. he may even have a few motors kicking about still in the shed...

they say the same thing about the type of dog you own.
we have a little dog & a big dog.
that means i have a little **** on my forehead & a big one in my pants.....?
or is it the other way around......they don't call me weed for nothing.
bushy ,i don't have to tell you how lucky you are to be able to ride unregistered bikes wherever & whenever you want.enjoy it while you can fella cause litigation is coming your way, its just a matter of time.
as far as a 2 stroke putting out a smooth power curve ,i've never seen one yet on a bike.
my old 25hp johnson outboard is the closest thing i've seen to a 4 stroke power curve.
just had a look at the distance from my place to yours, its about 3600km or 2200miles as the crow flys, probably nearly double that by road.i think i would have to morgage the bloody house for the fuel bill,& that would be a one way ticket.
..weed..

there is a methanol cr500 over your way weed suposed to be very smooth and whack out 90Hp, huge underslung snomobile pipe and very short run time. so im sure its possible with more ccs to get a nicer curve.

sounds good butI duuno I never saw a good 2 stroke bike either, dads old mculloch mc110 chainy is nice and smooth but no pipe.

lawnmowers are smooth maybe they need to go 900cc in a bike to get an smooth curve.

pretty sure I'l allways be able to ride whatever I want on my own block but you never know I guess

3600km yeah its a long way, see if you can get to the kungurri hillclimb this year, the hayabusa should be there, not me though its a friggen long way to go for a 30 second run up a hill.
