no-o-o-o-o-o--o-o :) :)

dear oh dear...

a man who can't see something that isn't there because it is broken and gone and now someone who thinks that a 4mm bolt should withstand a whallop better than an 8mm bolt...

I think I'll just hold my head a minute...

Keep us posted how you go Stooki. I'm very keen to hear and challenges you come across, I'm doing my 650 (08 model) this summer too (well its summer in Australia). I have built plenty of engines before, but like you, no Husabergs. These things are a creature unto themselves.

Thanks for the tips you guys who have posted. I'll be following those too.

Are there any 'special' Husaberg specific tools that are required? Gear holders, etc?

hello.

then i have torn up the bike.

what i have done is a tear down so the frame is ready for painting:)

the engine is out and begun to open it, i got quite a shock when i saw the primary gear on the crank, the woodruffe key has eaten the slot and destroyed the crank and gear :0.

i had a hope that the liner was in great shape but no :( it has a spot like 2mmx1,5mm where the nicasil is gone:(:(.
so i think i have desided to change it, the spot will just be bigger and bigger.

pictures will be comming, i know how funny it is to read post with pictures :)

 expensive bike suddenly

I can get the crank repaired no problem. I've done quite a few now. the end of the crank can be brittle and snap off. but I suspect that a cheaper option my be available?

check if you're going to need a new crank gear?

I can also get the Nikasiling done and check for ovality etc. it might no longer be round.

Taffy

Now the engine is open as much as it get. See the picture, is this someething i should change? Its at the first and second gear i think. So what is your opinion?

definitely change those Stookie they are "rooted" 8O

ok.
is it enough to just change this one if the opposite gear is ok?

Stooki650!

maybe but you might have to open it up again sooner than you want to

I would change both and closely examine all the other gears too

Mine snapping off decomp stopper nut looks to me the cause was the cam bolt maybe came unscrewed (lock tight it) The cam chain brke when it locked up in the rocker cover by the pic looks the same as mine looked. Luckly nothing major damaged put a new cam chain and bolts on sprocket and new cam decomp bolt and nut all seems ok.

Then i need a good opinion on what is should do now.

as i have noticed my rebuild would cost me approx 2,400 euro ++.
cylinder liner, piston, crank,4 gears in gear box, new gears that sits on crank, new cam, cam chain, new bearings, and another stuff that is recuired that has to be changed when you are in the case.

this is the price just for the parts, ill do the work myself.

it was the f****ing cylinder liner, piston and crank that is just 1,200 euro in parts!!

is it whort to spend that much money in a 2001 husaberg?

I can do a rebuild far cheaper than that! I have just quoted a Norwegian 1,200GBP for the same as you but you have the crank as well and 4 gears. I have many used gearboxes here and a few cranks. however I only usually put them to use in engines I'm working on.

used gears should be easy enough to get. even the crank isn't too bad to find. BTW, using the later 2005+ crank is far cheaper.

Probably everyone who works on an old one says the same thing. But, if you go out and buy another used bike to replace it, you really don't know what you have. If you rebuild it, you do. New bikes are nice but they are five or six times the cost of the rebuild. Then you are going to want to add some extras and do suspension ...etc. most people cant ride either to the full potential of the bike anyways. The problem I see is the availability of parts. When you need them, they are very expensive, even used! Find them used when you don't need them and start your own spares bin for a fraction of the cost. I broke a kicker shaft on mine and paid dearly for a used one that arrived a week later. Since then I bought two others and some extra parts off ebay for less than 1/3 of what I paid for the one shaft.

My vote is to fix it.

Yes... absolutley

I have an account with a USA mail forwarding company

shipito.com

then choose a usa parts dealer but do not use Bikebandit or partshark

choose a good one like elitektm
