Thumper Racing 610 kit.

Thanks for that, I hope he is well soon! That post was a while ago now and I have proceeded to stick with the original capacity purely because Im inpatient and need my berg running as soon as I can! I have been riding my mates EXC530 on occasion which is a great bike but its just not the same, ha ha!

Yeah I had a 530 exc before I got the 570 & your 100% right they are ok but as you say not the same. Every time I ride the berg it amazes me.

Man I rode a brand new wrf 450 last week and what a piece of junk..... Nothing compares to the 610, even the 570 feels plastic in comparison.

I got to ride a brand new WR - 450 last Saturday, it was a good comparison hoping off the Berg & onto the WR & back & forth a few times. Power wise really no comparison, the WR is not a bad bike probably a really good bike ridden in isolation but compared with the Berg it felt a distant second to me & also to the other two riders I was with.

Yeah yeah, rub it in! Ha ha!

Yeah no need, if you have the opportunity do it you won't be disappointed.

You're exactly right 86 it's not a bad bike, it's just not the real McCoy, but I'm biased.....

Ok so now I have mounted a 44mm Bergos throttle body to my beloved Swedish girl. A quick check of the TPS and adjustment of the throttle cables and away we go.

The first Start up had me a ltttle worried as it took a fair amount of cranking but I put this down to the fuel system purging air caught between the quick fitting and injector. Had the injector ultrasonically cleaned and tested while the TB was away. The strangest thing was that the power relay dropped out twice while ( head and tail lights went out ) let it idle for a couple of minutes ( yes Davo, I did a " burn in ) but the motor still ran.

Anyway out on the road the seat of my pants told me that I have more mid range torque and crisper throttle response without any noticeable loss to bottom end response and a stronger transition into the top end. Under had acceleration any lumps in the road would send the front end skywards :bounce3:

I wish I could quantify the gains or changes yielded by the bigger TB, I was keen for a race against my friends 610/ FMF equipped machine but a bung knee put paid to that. I have lined up a dyno session in a weeks time so then I will post the results straight away I will be attending this time so hopefully I can make a cool video like some of you other blokes at the sumo.

More fuel will net you more HP, especally now that you have the bigger TB to flow air better I am certain you are lean. My bike is bigger but I add ALOT of fuel to the mapping on the top side and a good bit to the bottom revs of the mapping as well.

You can see how you power on the dyno run falls off on the top side due to a lack of something - air/fuel or both. You now will flow more air so I'm certain you need more fuel. Shoot for an A/F ratio of 12.5-13 and you will see your HP and Torque numbers go up. I would think the 610 kit should put out 60ish pretty easy with correct tuning - done up to the hilt numbers of 65ish would be easy IMO.

Thanks for the advice mate ! I was motivated by the drop off in high rpm to do the TB and I agree that it is lean up there now it feels like it stops pulling as hard. I'll be looking to get as much as I can out of this tune, I'm on the road to 70 at the wheel then I'll be happy..... For a little while. Might have to actually compete with this thing one day, definitely going to the Grasstree beach race next year and need powa to compete with methanol fed fe 650's and mutant cr 500's. :D

Back 26 years ago when I was a young fella Water Ski Racing my trusty old V8 Chevs made more Horse Power with less fuel. They never never never ever made more power with more fuel? They just leaned out, made more horse Power and went bang. I know they made more Horse Power as it was hard to hang on to the ski rope.

My new 46mm mega throttle.

Phaaaaaaaaark..... Good bye bottom end torque hello wailing top end 8O. What are your plans for the intake filtration side of things ? Surely you'll do the seat hole mod and modify the std air box to isolate that tuba sized tb from the heat under the tank ?

  dead set classic Davo ! What are the consequences of a chev going bang while the ski rope is being hard to hang on to ?

It's getting 13.5:1 CP piston in and head ported along with cam from thumper racing, so no bottom end problems hopefully.

I already have a nice hole in the seat + dna panel air filter. Yeah I was going to try the golden heat reflective tape from DEI, and the airbox needs to be cutted anyways to fit that mega tube in it so it needs RTV to seal it.

I have a complete new standalone ECU for the bike so it can be tuned to perfection.

Can't wait to see what all those things result to on the dyno :D
I am also curious what the weight difference might be on a 590cc setup compared to stock maybe 25 extra cc's wil not make that much difference power wise but 18% more weight means more wear on the rest in the motor more fuel consumption less reliabilty :?:
If the 590 kit is only 10% more weight it will rev quicker/smoother I think ,anyway I'm sticking with 565cc's for now but just nice to see these thing :p

I heard that the 590 was waste of money. 610 seems to be a good choice but it requires the cases to be overbored to fit the liner. Nothing a good machinist can't do but it's permanent mod then and stock cases are not cheap...

More rotating mass = more inertia and slower revving. Needs damn good balancing of the rotating assembly if you want to rev a 610 or 664 up to 10k rpm's, but then again does it need that much revs anymore because you get 20-50% more torque everywhere? It's kinda like changing a ferrari to tractor.

Yeah If I had the cash I would consider a 610 kit but then again the fact you have to bore the case out is a thing I do'nt like.
That thumper kit would be insane with alle the whistles and bells added to it (modified TB/Ported head/blueprint/performance cam/custom FI etc )
That thing would go +70bhp easily I think 8O

I have Thumper 660 kit in my bike, was first bike Travis did that was a Berg. It rips - 72.5hp 46ft/lt torque at the rear wheel.

That torque is awesome, 62Nm. I assume you have the same hardweld cam that I also have laying on my desk. How much it changed the motor behavior ?

Judging by the added duration on both intake and exhaust side + the added lift on exhaust it seems to make a nice all-around improvement and nice top end breathing to help that 7000rpm torque fall on stock motor.
