My Son Has Just About Had Enough Of His Gasgas 400.
He Really Envy's My FE400.
My Question Is,What Model/Year Should He Get?.
We're Going To Be Doing Mostly Woods Riding.
He Likes A More Motocross Feel.
Its Gotta Have 6 Gears And Be Road Legal. :?

It sounds obvious to me that it should be a new fe450 if your wallett can handle it our an older 400 like the one you have. He would probably like the FC450 on the track but I'm sure the FE is the best bet based on the amount of woods riding you say you are doing.

Good Luck!

FC 450

WE have a 05 FC 450 best machaine ever produced 1150rpm smooth shifting fast and snappy like a 250 two stroke went to a 14/48 gearing now it pulls forever great in the woods too feels just like the fe 400 but with way more motor to pull you up the hills or over logs but still with the light feel of a 250 and still with the engine brake.

Ahh...true love. Cody, should I be surprised at your post. :]

For the rest of you Bergamaniacs, Cody brought his prize fighter Dustin to the dealer ride in Canada and could not get him off the bike. Part way through the event Cody decided to purchase the demo bike and have it shipped to the US immediately so the kid could start racing it and they would not have to wait for the regular shipment to hit the dealer floors.

As soon as the kid new it was HIS bike...forget about it. They rest of us could just watch him pound out wicked fast laps on our 3 minute grass track and beg him to let us ride a lap or two now and then. The kid was unbelievable on that new 450. I feel old and slow every time I think of him roosting past me. My only consolation was using age and treachery to put some time on him in the woods...even if was only a few seconds!

So...I think your biased Cody! :] I still think the Fe450 might be the machine they are looking for with some stiffer suspension if they truely are in need of the 6 gears and electrical.

I'm really pleased that the bike is working out for you Cody. So when do we get some results of how "Stinky" is doing racing that new 450?

Being New To Husabergs Whats The Differances Between An FC And An FE,I Didnt Think That There Was Much Difference.
The Reason He's Wanting To Get A Bike With 6 Gears Is He'll Use It For A Few Rides To Work In The Summer Months And He Figures That More Gears Will Put Less Strain On The Engine.
He Wont Be Going To Very Many MX Track Because He Badly Smashed His Legs 3 Years Ago And Is Lucky To Be Walking And There About And 1 1/2hr Drive There And Back.
So It's Going To Be Mainly Woods And Green Lane Riding(Fire Trail?) Use.
What Size Is A Good All Rounder,Anything Has Got To Be Better Than Spending Loads On His Gasser To Bring It Up To Husaberg Standards.

Kez,

In general, the FC is designed for motocross competition. The FE is designed for woods riding/racing. The FE comes with gearing designed for the woods with the 6 speed transmission, lights etc. The FC has more aggressive gearbox, number plates...no lights etc.

Check out the specs and reviews on these machines and you should get a clear picture. If you are familar with KTM, the FC would be more like a SX and the FE would be more like the EXC models.

I hope this helps.

So Can An FC Be Converted To Use On The Road Easily(Lights/E-Start,Etc)
Why Does The Enduro Have More Gears Than The MX Version?.
Went For A Ride This Afternoon And I Realy Didnt Get Out Of 4th That Much.

Kez,

I think that it can be done but I am not sure what would be involved. I would suggest you contact Dale Lineaweaver who is a regular on this site and seems to have a ton of technical knowledge. Here is his website
