This weekend we had a club ride at one of my states best trail systems, it’s called Tomohawk. It has three loops A, B & C I rode the C loop, 50 miles of hilly, sandy, rooty, knarley tight trails. They were glorious! Well to my problem, I blew past a trail turn off and decided to go cross country back to the trail and hit a deep hole and did a small endo. At which time I knocked off my lower radiator hose and didn't see it. Well I rode the remaining 10 miles of hard trail playing catch up with my group, with a dry motor. The bike ran fine never missed a beat, never over heated? So what do you folks think I fried in my motor?

I'm hoping for the second alternative but that sounds to good to be true but I'm still hoping :?

you neglected to mention that is was so hot here that the trees were bursting into flames ! How many showed up for the Phil Bean Memorial ?

The ride tickets were in the 300's. They had a Pig roast for free and at the prize drawing I won a MSR loading ramp.

On my 01 501 the water pump spigot did not have "rib" around the end and that caused my hose to come off. That happened to me twice before I cleaned it well with brake cleen and added a ring of J B WELD around the end creating a bulge that the hose would not slip off of with the clamp in place. That may have been the "cause" of your watter loss and not just the small endo. Good bike HUH EH? Synthitic or Dello? Inquiring minds want to know.

I have known that to happen at least 3 times to people I know with no damage to the motor. The Husy's seem to be fairly heat tolerant. If it would have been too hot it would have let you know (detonation etc..)

Slightly scuffed piston skirt and / or mild ring abrasion if anything at all.

Of more concern is that of a warped head and / or skewed valve seats. I suggest careful inspection upon disassembly.

Kind Regards,
Dale

raced my bike three weeks ago to 2nd in a 3-hour H & H and i'm guessing i did most of it without water.

scuffed up piston, big end loose, little end not a lot better, rippling in the nikasil liner.

most of all though my impellor had turned to tooth paste! see if you still have an impellor first!

check for melt down also on the end of the water pump shaftand a glazed coating that goes hard.

smell and feel the oil. you can judge when the oil has completely had it.

regards

Taffy
