Hi,
I came across this thread when searching decompression cable adjustments
I have a 99 FE 501 that I have owned for years and after I followed the carb setup advise in the owners doc. on the Dellorto it was easy to start hot or cold. The Dellorto is really finicky on the needle adjustment and trying a few different settings here can really improve things. This bike with the electric start has no visible manual decomp cable or kick start actuated one, so it must have the cam set up.
Fast forward:
I recently bought a 2000 FC 501 basket case and after working on fixing up the whole bike I finally got to the point of starting it yesterday. The bike was a really hard starter when I test rode it 4-6 weeks ago. Now after fixing up the whole bike, New black plastics, new seat, some paint, adjusting timing, valves, buying carb bits etc it was time for the first start up.
I could barely kick it over and at first I was not able to start it. Yet I had my other 501 to compare it with so I know that this was not right. This bike has no manual decomp and I ended up adjusting the kick start actuated cable, pulled the choke and 3 kicks later had a bike running.
I have always liked the 2000 model with the newer frame and the old (now anxient) motor in it and since my kids are hitting the track I wanted a Husaberg that I could bring and actually enjoy riding on the MX track without forking out the big dough on the new FX model.
