Bikes acting weird,

starts good, when driving it from cold I can drive it for about 5km then it starts violently shutting off.
I keep the throttle open and it goes full blast for two seconds, then nothing, .... When I stop and restart it (immediately) it starts ok and I can go again for a couple of km's before it starts all over again? Seems like the engine getting warm has something to do with it.

Any toughts?

SEM

Stator, plug, spark plug connector?
Carburettor, the float height.
Well thats my 5 cents :)

I agree with BG, check the fuel cap vent.

Then I would replace the plug. Look at what happened to that fellow with the 09 in Montana, hair line crack in porcelain.

The next thing I would guess, since the shut off is abrupt is that the stator is going bad, winding starts getting warm, and the broken wire lifts and separates. Soon as there is no load it cools and re attaches.

mine does that when the carb breather tube is blocked but im probably the only eejit running only one breather.

What should the Float Bowl Level be at one a 2005 FS650E?

Ive I had the bike on choke and I put in on my hip to pivot the bike on the ground and drop the tire on the ground the bike will most certainly die.

Also are these Carbs suppose to be 90 degrees up right? Or slighting angled?

Download the workshop manual from the .com site and all will be revealed. Float height should be 8-9mm's.

I did download it, and it did not specify the exact anything

Right you are Ken!,

Although page G-13 describes wth a picture how to set the float height. The standard float height that I have found is from the 06 CRF 450R owners manual, which is 8mm see a picture of it here: http://www.husaberg.org/index.php?full= ... _photo.php

From a pm exchange I had with a UHE member about float height:

Hi Dale,

Just thought I would let you know and my be you could try it your self at some stage that setting the float height to 9mm has transformed the engine and throttle responce.
I don't think I am far off from your current settings apart from the float height.
MJ 160
PJ 38
FS 1 1/2 turns out
PAS 5/8 turn out
Needle CVS clip #2
Float height 9mm as opposed to 7mm the way Husaberg tell you to set it.
No sign of popping on the over run and I run a straight through pipe.
When i start now start the engine on choke it starts up on a high idle with no bad signs of 4 and 8 stroking like it did before.
If you could fit an adjustable handle bar choke set up you could adjust the rpm while on choke.

Another question, have you heard of a company at your end called AEM.com?, they are selling a Air/Fuel kit complete with Lamda and electronics $213.00. Any good?..

Regards

Steve.

Hi Steve,

How's the leg healing up?

I actually think I might have my float height set at 9mm as I am pretty sure I set it on the high side of "parallel" when I adjusted it. The next time I have it apart I will check it. As you might imagine the 04 is not getting as much attention as it was. Although I am planning on using it as a team bike for a 12 and 24 endurance events later this year.

I have not heard of the outfit that you mentioned, but, I will go and check them out.

Thanks for the information and comments, I'm sure I will be able to use them in the future.

Dale

And this from the 2002 KTM owners manual:

Checking the float level (float height) *
For this purpose, dismount the carburetor and remove the float chamber.
Hold the carburetor in a slanted position such that the float will abut the
float needle valve but not compress it (see photo).
Now, use a sliding caliper to measure the distance H between the casing
edge and the float's upper edge.
The float height H is to be 9mm.
If the float height does not correspond to the desired value, check the float
needle valve and, if necessary, replace it.
If the float needle valve is o.k., you can adjust the float height by bending
of the float lever 4.
Mount the float chamber, install the carburetor, and adjust the idle speed.

Good post, I know mine pops as mentioned above.

Also it looks like the carb cannot be 90 Degrees to the cylinder, its more like 77 - 85 degrees standing up.
