Hi all, long time since I've been on the forum as the 390 is in bits having a winter refurb ! I have purchased a solid rear and new front stainless disc from racedisks Now for the question Is it OK to put stainless bolts into the alloy hub ? I have read that there can be a reaction between the two metals which causes them to be a real pain to remove. I have also read that it only occurs if there is metal to metal contact so a slither of grease prevents this. As they are going to be holding the discs on I'm a little reticent to grease the bolts and would normal use a drop of loftiness and torque them to spec. Suggestions please.

I use Bostik Never-Seez Anti-Seize & Lubricant Compound their are brands I just have this one at home.

Like the man said obtusely :D the OEM bolts are not stainless. If they are OEM they have matte finish and you use loctite not anti-sieze. The Bolt brand kit is like OEM whatever that stuff is as well.

For what it's worth - s.s. nuts and bolts are not as strong as the stock steel (M8?) stuff.

I do use them, but only where they are only holding things on and then w/ never seize.

It is risky application for SS bolts. Compare to standard steel f.e. 10.8, they are like butter.

Low grade stainless bolts have lots of risk: galling of threads, relatively low yield strength (and less clamping load), if they break and get hot from the drill bit they can work harden enough to be very difficult to drill out, and most are cheap with questionable quality. There are some alloys for high strength stainless bolts that can be sourced but cost is a lot higher to get the same performance as an inexpensive high strength plated steel bolt.

Hi

I don't like rust, so I use a lot of ss without a problem. If you have doubts use any never seize paste (I also love to use this stuff).

SS are stronger then std 8.8, but in some things I also use stronger ones but I usually have them in black, so as I said I don't like rust so I paint the heads :D
