HI Gents,
I have squashed my stock header below the mid pipe real good and also where the mid and header join is well out of shape.
I have googled my ass off (eyes are burning) and cant seem to find a FMF megabomb header and mid for the 2012 570. All sites saying 09-11 including FMF site?

I have spoken to my local dealer (Western Australia) and he advised that a new stock header is $370AU :shock: :cuss: . FMF on line is around $500US and if it includes the mid pipe I'm sure this is a much cheaper option.

Questions


1. All the pictures on the websites only show the header, but state in the title header/mid pipe. Do you get both?


2. Can you get a megabomb header and mid pipe for the 2012 570?

Any help appreciated.

The 09-12 bikes are all the same in this regard. 12s didnt come into US, so that might be why FMF doesn't list them.

I think FMF only makes the front pipe and you reuse the 'midpipe'.

Be careful that some of the FMF mufflers for this bike lists that it comes with the midpipe, but what they mean is the 2" stub out of the muffler.

I had the same concern with the listing on the FMF website but took the risk and ordered the header and slip on for my 2010 FE570. When the package arrived a couple weeks later it contained the full system: header pipe, mid pipe and muffler. Landed here in Australia for less than i could find it anywhere here! It doesn't come with its own heat shield but the stock one fit on ok, the fit is a bit tight but you have to expect that with the route these systems take to the rear of the bike. The muffler comes with mounting spacers that i found wouldn't fit my bike so i used the originals and it sits in there nicely. Im more than happy with mine!

Ill take the plunge and order the fmf header/mid pipe and hope they both come. Already running the acra slip on. Pics of the system look good as the mid pipe diameter on the fmf looks like it doesnt reduce like the stock mid pipe.

I can only do the header at 470GBP and the tail 4.1 for 310. closest I can do but then they are from the US of A so it reallly ought to be cheaper there didn't it?

Hey Cam, sorry mate im gunna keep them for spares. Im only ever a short time away from throwing my bike down the track, ha ha! If you were closer i would have been happy to lend them to get you back on your bike!

I just thought i would ask mate. I need a pipe before the 25-5 as ive got an event on.
Just hope the fmf gets here before then.

If i was closer i would have taken you up on your offer too.

The FMF header/mid-pipe is a combo item (both included) and muffler is separate. I had previously Akra slip-on and added the FMF megabomb combo to it. Be careful when mounting the mid-pipe as it's OD is seriously larger than stock.

It will touch cases on two spots, frame near shock and brake master cylinder. Also check that the bolt you use to mount the mid-pipe through engine mounting bracket won't touch the mid-pipe when it's torqued down completely. I had to shave ~5mm from bolt threads and use one 2.6mm washer to get acceptable clearance. I had accidentally torqued the bolt down first and it touched the pipe. Luckily it was only small punch mark.

Otherwise it's a pretty straight on fitting exhaust. Just throw to installation manuals in the bin, and try to check that you can get as perfect fit as possible. It's no Akrapovic fit, but then again the price is 50% off compared to Akra.

Yeah i forgot to mention the length of the mid pipe mounting bolt, been awhile since i fitted mine. It is too long, i cut mine down also. It would be easy for somebody with no mechanical "feel" to dent or pierce the pipe with it! I found with a little persuasion that the pipe can be positioned without touching the frame and covers but as you said, it is a very tight fit. It was easier for me to drop the shock out of the way when fitting aswell. Enjoy!
