Has anybody "fixed" their side stand so it doesn't fold up at the slightest movement of the bike? I bumped the bike while working on it and it fell over, luckily it fell against my work chair and didn't hit the ground. Any ideas ? Thanks Vern 06fe650

Mine just broke when it did that. I am going to look for a welder to fix and add a sleeve around the break area.

on my 98, i rearranged the spring positon slightly so it is more to the outside and will clear when the kickstand is lowered.

ezrider, a quick way to solve your problem is replace the stock bolt with a non-shoulder bolt that will allow you tighten it down enough to have some drag on the pivot. My buddy lost the factory bolt on his 450 and we did this with good results. I'm not sure it's a good long term solution, but it worked on his until he sold the bike.

Once I got used to it, I kind of like the 'auto-retract'. My KTM buddies give me a hard time about it, but I tell them it makes me faster than them from a start.

LeFrog, we met at the Ellsworth and Brown Chevron awhile ago. I have a 550. I can help you with welding that side stand if you need it.

Oh yeah Cse I remember, it looked like you were going to have a lot of fun. Also each time I see a Husberg rider I have a habit of saying hi, if I can.

So far this is an Arizona-only thread, that's nice to see.

And yes, I am interested in fixing that stand if you have the time!

Side stand

On the first 04 berg I had ,after almost 8000km off road the stand moved around a lot and had worn out the pivot quite a bit,the retaining springs had almost worn through the eye or attachment loop on the frame to.This was at the point where it to looked like it could of got some leverage on the frame and break off.
On the current berg I have drilled out a hole in the bottom point in the rear guard on the side cover and attached a 5 inch elastic loop to retain the side stand and stop moving about.( simular to what the KTMs have to hold their stands up.)Seems to work well if you dont mind putting a hole in the plastics.

RE: Side stand

Before I bent and broke the kickstand, I managed to resolve the looseness issue by overtighening a bit and also by using a pair of lock jaw pliers to tighten the mount a bit. Also shortening the spring hook on top helped.

My kick stand was so loose it was a real pain when I was struggling to kickstart my bike at the beginning of my ownership. I actually bruised myself a few times hitting the kickstand.

RE: Side stand

I tightened the kickstand bolt and bent the spring clip, nice and tight now....Vern
