Hi Everyone.
I am a new owner and this is my first problem with my 03 FE501.

I have had the bike now for about 4 mths. Bought it 2nd hand from a long time Husaberg owner and it was well cared for. Have ridden it every 2nd weekend just for trail rides to get familiar with it and I have just done my first enduro on it. My early thoughts? Fantastic bike. Great handling and more than enough power for me. Spent some time dialing in the susp. for me, which was time well spent and more than enough adjustment out of the crate.

My problem? Well i have been very careful with oil & filter changes. valve adjustments, drying of stator , air filter cleaning etc and she has been running great. No starting or running problems at all and lots of fun. But after my first enduro last weekend where she ran great and had no starting issues at all, when i went to start her up again a week later no go at all. I could kick all i wanted and the motor will just give no indication of wanting to start at all.
After reading several posts I assumed that it must be the stator, so i downloaded the hard start guide and tested it. The stator seems to be fine according to the values in the HSG as the stator output and the spark are both fine.
Ok then,so I adjusted the valves just to eliminate this area but still no go. I can only think that it is the Carb. I have never had the carb off the bike as it has been running well, but could the problem be the carb as the bike was running perfectly before I turned it off ? :
Is there something else that I may be missing?

Stolliberg.

Check that gas is getting into the carb. I've forgotten that I had closed the petcocks on more than one occasion  After that I take off the carb, remove the float bowl, and clean the dickens out of the thing. Lots of carb cleaner and compressed air. Reassemble, and wa-la ; its always worked for me. Good luck.

If you washed it there may be water in the carb. Water tends to get in through the air intake boot.

Yes. When cold i only ever start it with the kickstart, and it normally starts on the 3rd kick with the choke on. Once warm she starts on the button no problems.

I think I shot water up one of the carb vent pipes once. Dropping off the float bowl fixed it.

plug out, put it in cap and rest it upon the head. kick it through and check for spark.

use mastik to seal the plug lead into the cap and the coil. check all connections and again i mastik all mine.

First thing is to make sure you have a spark (as per Taffffffffffffy) but I reckon you have got water into the carby via the air filter or the rubber boot. Spray some CRC or similar into intake and then drain the fuel from carby. If you have spark it will go.

Thanks for the help guys.

I finally got around to pulling off the carb, and found the problem was the float needlejet needle sticking in the fully closed position and not letting any fuel into the floatbowl. Thus no start.
The problem is caused by a small oring in the assembly swelling slightly to cause it to bind. However I have to replace the entire assembly as the oring is not listed as a seperate part. I have not done this as it looks like a tap on the side of the carb should be enough to unstick the needle if it happens again.

But has anyone an idea for a cheap permanent fix or any experience with this problem?

I had the same problem with my bike a while back. Your best fix is to replace the floatvalve with a new one. When the small o-ring starts sticking it won`t make any difference what you do, it will still stick and mess you up. Tapping the side of the carb might work for a little while but the writting is on the wall so just go ahead and replace it. That`s the best thing to do. Hope this helps
