After my recent disaster with my 2008 650 and the lack of funds to repair it at the moment, I'm going to put my 2002 650 engine in the 2008 frame.

Can I just hook up the stator to the 2008 voltage regulator, or do I also need to swap the one from the 2002 bike? The CDI I will offcourse swap from the 2002 bike.

Am also planning on swapping the cam decompression thingie so the 2002 kicks a bit easier, any other things I should consider?

Thanks.

Re: Sem/kokusan

the voltage regulator is fine, the connectors will prolly be different. but swap the cdi and the coil from the sem. have you considered using the entire cam, decomp, gear and all? also use the newer rockers if they are the same length. also use the carb.

Re: Sem/kokusan

Already have the upgraded rockers, a lineaweaver cam and a FCR carb, that setup was working quite well so I'll keep it like that.

Hey, Thanks for the fork seal size, got one.

Re: Sem/kokusan

What about the kick start gear, is that the same on the earlier bikes than on the newer bikes? Wouldn't mind a bit of easier kicking!

And does the 2004+ clutch cover fit on the older bikes?

you are going to be the first to try the cover change!

yes the kickstart swops.

Is there an advantage to swapping the kickstart gear? Or are the kickstart internals identical for the older and newer bikes?

I know the oil for the bigend passes through the side cover, any other things I have to look out for when swapping the side cover?

Re: Sem/kokusan

kickstarts are all the same from the year 2003-4 onwards.

nothing else to worry about except trying it.

Still running smooth :)

Re: Sem/kokusan

I've swapped out the cam decompression thingie, but they looked exactly the same to me?

One advantage to having your new 2008 bike self destructing is having a big box of shiny spare parts to 'pimp' your old 2002 engine :)

Wich starter is better? The stock 2008 starter or the R6 starter motor, used on the older bikes?

Re: Sem/kokusan

Had a look at the 2008 wiring diagram, it states that there is a yellow and a white wire coming from the stator wich go into the rectifier to power all the non iginition stuff.

What exactly are these two wires? I presume one is a feed from the stator to the rectifier to power all the non electrical stuff, but what about the other one?

Also I know (if I recall correctly) that the sem gives 60v, wich then went into the voltage/rectifier thingie, does the kokusan give the same values? Or will I have too little or too much voltage for the 2008 regulator/rectifier?
Don't wanna destroy the electrical stuff also on this bike, just destroying the motor was enough fun for me :D .

Thanks

without a schemo showing how the kokusan is wired, i'm gonna guess the white is one side of the charging coil (the side that burned off of the '04 models) and the yellow is the other, possibly the same as the ground in the sem. it looks like the kok is a floater coil. the 2 systems are different enough that you ought to forget using the '08 reg/rect and go with the sem rectifier and seperate regulator, or you could try using the yellow as white and blue as yellow and 8O see what happens.

Looked a little further into the wiring, of the two wires (yellow, and white) going from the stator to the rectifier, the yellow is ac power since it splits in two and one of the wires feed the lights. Still don't know what the white blue wire is for, anyone?

Christof.
