Scott's stainless oil filter

ah Ok it gets more interesting the further we poke it :)

as I see it there is basically no filtration or oil supply advantage offered by the stainless filter over the oem paper ones in our engines.

they may in fact be worse as the higher possible flow rate isn't used and they can pass a bit of grit big enough to get jammed between the piston and liner.

I still like them though, just not as much as when I first read the promotional literatures.

on oil pressures, I'd like to think that upping the oil flow to the big end might make the 35mm sintered metal cage cage last a bit longer and if I can up it to 45psi the rocker arms could get their own oil line.

Fellas,
Probably like many I get confused with these types of topics...why..? becuase I'm a dickH**d and don't understand the technical side of the engines as much as many of you.....but I do understand particle size because of one of the businesses I'm involved in...35 micron filtration equates to 400 Grit abrasive particle (in Fepa terms) of abrasive grain...that being said it mean that the 35 micron filter will seperate particle that is perfectly formed and detectable and keep it from going through your oil system / engine..P400 is a pretty big particle...

As far as oil pressure goes....is the thought that the Berg engines run to low a pressure...? Man you should see what an 80 cube Shovelhead Harley engine runs(at operating temperature) you'd ***** yourself...

So with all that said and done...who the hell has done the homework and looked at Ben Ballards oil pump upgrade..? if not why... if so why....I'm waiting on Ben to get back with a price and I'll going to go with it and the water pump upgrade...(come on Ben finger out and sort a price) we want to buy...we love your work....

Is the issue to argue over type of filter or rather to get a good filtration and keep flow to a level that won't screw the engine / cam chain / other bits...?

I'm not a techo...I'm a pleb....but many of us on here are plebs to...it's hard to follow sometimes when we start splitting hairs on ultra fine points rather than agreeing on basic upgrades that will work...thats my two cents anyways

Cheers

i haven't heard about this pump upgrade.whats he do?
probably a waste of money if you don't change the that oil relief valve spring.
..weed..

Why don't we ask Cheeseberger what he thinks since he's got more hours on those 650's than anyone else around here. I seem to remember him saying he doesn't even replace the filter....just to stir the pot a little bit.

I'm not so sure Popup....check out his site, the guys makes 700 / 735 Berg kits for racing sidecar motocross, develops his own bits and is working on his own upgraded complete engine cases and pistons....

Seems he may be a clever son of a b**ch... look up shop / husaberg / on his site / scroll down to the bottom until you see oil pump and coolant pump upgrades. looks the goods

even though the relief cracks at 8psi the oil pressure at idle in mine with delo400 was 20Psi and at high rpm it goes up to 30psi

so the uprated oil pump could still increase pressure

I saw the JBS ones and was going to make my own bigger one out of 2 stock ones but thought I should check the pressure and the releif valve first.

JBS has tried plain big ends so I guess the uprated oil pump development was part of that.

the yamaha R1 oil pump and waterpumps are huge and run on the same shaft with a chain drive, they would fit in the space where our startermotors go. if you had one of those I reckon a plain big end MMC rod would be the shiznit :D

I just changed my oil last night. It's the first oil change on my PC Racing stainless oil filter. I washed it out in a jar of varasol and could see lots of flakes so small that they remained suspended in the fluid. I also noticed that there was a lot less in the screen than normally. So I guess it works. Anyways I did compare the Scotts and the PC side by side and the Scotts is for sure much better made as far as the housing and the rubber seal goes. Scotts is way ahead there. I also like the look of Scotts epoxy more than the PC racing filter, although that is meaning less as I know the guys at the shop all run PC racing and for several years with no reported trouble. The actual filter element is identical as far as I can tell and likely supplied by the same manufacturer.
Anyways I ended up with a case of Daleoitis and put the Scotts into my FE650 and the PC racing is on the shelf and I have my credit card ready and am thinking about giving Scotts a call...
