Rekluze Autoclutch

youngwerth

I had a 00-ktm 520 rekluse unit fitted to my 03-501 berg. The rekluze pressure had quite a bit of play in between it and the fingers of the clutch basket but worked extremely well for the 3 ride I had it in for.

I was then sent and have installed a new rekluze pressure plate to replace the original KTM one. The new one fits perfectly so I suspect this is what is now being issued as the standard Husaberg unit. This plate was somewhat thinner and also allowed for all the original friction plates to remain.

I am currently running no spacers on the spring towers and no preload spacers on the return spring. I have replaced one of the 1.0mm steel plates with a thicker 1.2mm steel plate and are using 6 carbide balls.

I find this setup works perfectly on my bike.

Would be interested to know what you are reccomending as starting configuration for the 03-501 Berg, as I only have the KTM instructions etc.

Cheers

Horto,

I think you're setup OK. I don't have the install instructions in front of me but they should be posted early next week. You'll want to check out what the correct # of shim washers is and get it setup as recommend (it may be 0 but I seem to remember it being at least a couple). This is important so that your pressure plate can't bottom out on your center clutch.

The other thing is drive plates. Do the drive plates supplied with the KTM unit fit the berg? I can't remember. If not, we can send you some of those so you can adjust your clutch pack height correctly.

Six tungsten carbide balls should be ok but we are actually shipping with 15 I believe. The bigger bikes have BIG torque and the 'berg has kind of a lazy primary ratio (at least compared to the RFS motors), the tungsten carbide balls help keep the clutch hooked up better down low. For a 400 or a 450, or any MX or Super Motard applications six or even no tungsten carbide balls would probably work better.

I assume you bought this from Suttos? Let him know if you need anything else and we'll get it out to him and tell Chris I said hi.

Thanks Al

Sutto's have sent me 2 Berg of the thicker (1.2mm) berg steel clutch plates. Presently I have only one of these installed.

Will be good to get copy of Berg specific recomendations so I can set it up correctly, although it is hard to fault its action at the moment. Maybe a bit more positive lock up at low revs but this seams only to be a issue when running high gears at low revs. Before I installed the 6 tungsten balls it was slipping too much.

Are you recommending 15 tungsten balls for all bergs (I have 03-FE501E) or just the 04 Bergs?

Is the preload spring that I was supplied as part of the KTM spring the same as is now being supplied with the Berg kits as I suppose this is the another key variable in getting the correct clutch setup?

I'd like to say that the after sales support and service I've received from Sutto's & Rekluze has been fantastic and made the whole exercise thoroughly enjoyable.

powercell

i guess i'm just thick but run this by me again please?

the magura clutch cylinder is used and it has a 10.5mm piston. a braided hose can go straight down to the rear caliper, it has good feel. the rear brake m/c and assosiated pipes and pedal can all be removed. does the magura change from mineral oil to brake fluid ok?

so where do the three brake pipes come from?

does anyone know the piston size of the rear brake m/c?

Doh!

right, the penny has dropped as we say over here. three brake lines in tandem-gotchya!

lookks neat!

remind me of the mineral v brake fluid and how the seals cope with the change?

Magura makes several different hydraulic clutch master cylinders, each specific for either mineral oil or brake fluid.

rekluse have changed the engagement system since this thread started a year ago so i thought i'd leave you this link to their downloads section.

http://www.rekluse.com/downloads/husabe ... 082604.PDF

they now use a 1.5" spring to go with the 2" spring used all along. it also explains how to use washers to give you early or late engagement.

if i can't get a kit to change to DOT fluids i'll get a mastercylinder from the states. $117 is only £60 at present and not worth the hassle!

silicone brake fluid

Hi Taffy

I'm told that you can use the automec slicone brake fluid in your standard magura M/C with no problems at all.

I bought mine from my local road race circuit (Castle Combe) but here is a link to the manufacturers website :-

Good luck with getting the rekluse working as you like it. It is a shame that us Berg owners can't have the external adjustment.
