Rectifier

I have recently acquired a 1997 FE501e. Among some other minor problems the most pressing is the electric start/battery draining. I have read all the information and performed the checks and determined the rectifier is at fault. Does anyone have experience using a Radio Shack rectifier as a replacement? If so a part# or the specifications would be much appreciated.

I replaced mine with a generic one that I bought at a bike shop here for $20.00. It was just a generic one for a snowmobile.

The original rectifier is a Semikron SKB25/02 rated at 13A@200V, but almost any full wave bridge rated higher than about 10A@100V should be OK. Best to get one with spade type connections if you can.

Also check the body of the regulator (the block that should be bolted to the plastic rear mudguard) is insulated from the frame. Search the electrical forums. There have been several threads on both before.

I searched a great deal of the info available before I asked the questions, but didn't find that the rectifier is a full wave or what amperage I would need.
$20.00 or more seemed pretty pricey but good to know that a none dealer part would work.
I was told by the supplier that you can go with a higher amperage as it will only use what it needs but you can't go with less.
I found one at a local electronics shop; P/N- NTE5322, 25A, 200V, 1/4" spade connectors, $6.19. Works fine. For those that might not want to use another manufacturers product the Semikron can be purchased through Newark Electornics for about $8.00.

Your next mission .... should you choose to accept it. Is to find a voltage regulator suitable for charging them batteries !
