i'm compiling an owners report on my bike for this site. i have a FE400e so as long as the stuff below would fit this model then i need to know what works and what doesn't. got a good tip? cross referenced a part from another model? let me know here please. the work is 95% done but there is always a bit more!

razorback alloy fuel tank-who's tried one?

i would like the consensus of opinion on these. does anyone know anyone who has used one? SM boys?

i'm trying to get the feedback on this for the owners report.

the aluminium louvres

good fit? strong in a fall/ easy to fit? colour availability?

seat foam

softer? wider? harder? who from?

decal set

what year model? details?

non - OEM speedo

impact? cost? easy to use?

better electrics than OEM?

maybe you've got a better coil or ignition system? cross referenced parts from other bikes etc? does the later leccy boot fit the pre '04 models?

IN THE ENGINE
for the post '01 400's has anyone tried any of the following:
a different cam to the standard '01'?
fitted any KTM bits directly in?
tried a HC piston?
tried any different bearing set -ups?

regards

Yes, Trail Tech Enurance BICYCLE speedo - £21 from Halfords

Make sure it is the wire pickup and not the wireless as the distance to the front wheel is too far for the sender. You need to lengthen the wire yourself and get some proper magnets to glue to the disks and then if you've got both off road and road wheels AND you change your brake from SM Beringer to MX Brembo, be even more careful because fitting may need to be different due to the calipers.

So, in conclusion a brilliant idea at the time - one that I wish I had just bought the proper £59.99 version with specific Husaberg fitting kit. The time spent sorting the bicycle one out more than cost me the extra 40 quid IYKWIM.

If you hasve speed cameras around and you are using this cheepo speedo don't even go near them either :D :D :D :D :D

Yes, one is very shortly to be fitted into my 01 650 and results will be posted when possible. As I understand the essential differences are "bigger" battery, better peak cranking output and for longer and a more powerful starter motor. For the 650 there are also some auto-decomp amendments.

Taffy, Im getting some graphics sets made up, should be getting the proof anyday and I will post up pics of what they are going to look like. im ordering 5 sets to start with, I think the price is going to be $50-60. I plan on getting an all black cover and tall hard foam from guts racing, but i dont have any first hand experience yet.

Dave186,

You said you were going with the hard foam on your seat soon, may I ask why not the soft? What are the advantages to having a hard foam over that of the soft if any, or is it just your preference?

Regards,
Sandskipper

well i like the feel of the KTM seats, its easier to move around on it. the stock berg seat sucks me in and i get stuck right in the middle (lowest point) and makes it real hard to get forward for a turn. so i want to try a tall hard seat foam.

I am very satisfied with the Trail Tech Endurance computer. I bought one of the original units in 2000 that were for bicycles and included a sensor cable etc. that lasted for over 7000 hard desert miles on my Berg before it started to suffer from vibration fatigue in the electronics. The newer one seems to be more ruggedized.

Dave

i'm interested in the tall foam. in the next month i will see if i'm having a good summer at work before committing to stuff from abroad on a big scale.

i wonder if anyone has tried tall and soft in a racing enviroment? anybody?

Taffy

come on lads help here please

if you've tried it-report it!

also if you've made a modification to your bike that works or done something that you were told about by an acquantance, friend or dealer and it worked then do tell me before i finally put up my report.

thanks :D :D

well its not a 400, but i have Dales X2 camshaft, im very happy with it. i havent found the need to adjust the valves since i put the cam in. smoother power and pulls harder on top.

One of the better things I fitted to my FEE was a headlight reflector from a '92-'96 TE Husky that takes an H4 halogen bulb. The one I use is 55/60 watt but 60/90 would be even better if it handles the vibes.

I also made a new hinge point for the sidestand that guides the stand and is stronger than the original. Bit of metalwork & welding in it but.

Taffy,
I installed Guts Racing tall foam and seat cover over a year ago and won't go back to standard size.
Major advantage = extra cushion on long rides when fatigue reduces time spent standing on pegs.
Major disadvantage = more effort required to move around while seated.
FWIW:
I don't use my berg in a "racing environment", but when I was racing back in the 70's I always fitted my bikes with taller seat foam that I cut out and stitched in. Please keep in mind that this was cross-country desert racing with long saddle times. In motox and closed course races I didn't use the tall seats due to the extra movement restriction.

cheers Dez

just trying to work out what folk were doing and it seems that if you go to tall seat foam you go soft still? even though there is now more of it.

brad

what do you ride again?

'98 FE600E but not positive if the headshell is OEM or Acerbis. It has Husaberg numbers cast into it and a Acerbis sticker on the front.

GUTS tall seat foam "firm" - The reason is for leg room (6' 1") and easier movement on the bike. The stock foam feels like you are sitting in a hole. taller bar mounts help also.

I also have the radiator guards (not louvers) sold by someone from this site on eBay - excellent fit and finish. More protection and easy to mount cooling fans to them.

I've also installed GUTS racing tall/soft seat foam and gripper cover. It makes the transition from sitting to standing easier and being softer than stock is nice on 2-day rides. I use my FE501 for Enduro competition and occasional dual sport rides.

ok here are some more for you. somethings i've thrown in a straight short ***-i mean punch-i mean answer. they're examples.

i want to know the service life of everything on the bike. if your going to help you need to say how much use your machines get in a year? ok?

another thing is the codes of parts so that we can buy them from other than husaberg dealers.

here goes

sprague bearing part #
mains?
valves?
camchain?
oil filter
air filter
rockers from husky?
followers from husky?
anything else at all that you're still holding the packaging carton too.....

also service life (within reason)
cotton reels (two seasons +)
camchain (two seasons max unless upgraded)
std valves (one hard season of racing)
wheel bearings (one season)
lower heim (regrease every 6 months)
headrace
s/a
clutch plates
chain guide front
chain guide underneath
etc etc
if it wears-what's it's service life?

Taffy
