Primary gear broke off, contaminated the oil and the piston went into the valves. Dealer wanted $7000 to fix it.

It appears that you may still be able to order a new 2008 450 or 550 motor.
The 550 part number is 090023H and retails for $3,499.99

Yep, they charged me $900 to split the case and put the parts in a box. For that I decided to buy a KTM 450 sxf and 1290 superduke somewhere else.
