the above is a cut n pate from the 2004 parts manual.

the balls come from the 560 SMR KTM. they are also specials. the reason dealers emphasis 'specials' as opposed to 'standard' or 'I found em' is because they're a lot of money and people want to know why? a standard bearing is about £15 these are £50 so there is a story behind them when you come to pay your bill.

Are the replacement bearings a ball, roller, or hybrid type like in Weeds gallery?
dan
Roller both sides, the ball bearings lock onto the crankshaft and casing and are hard to remove 13 rollers not 12 C3 extra capacity.

I really don't care I spoke to Orangeberg he knows I know
So anyone who needs rebuild in aus give him a buzz was all I was tryin to get across
Not another argument lol

Cheers

Is it okey to use "non C3" bearing on the shifter drum? Bought this 61806 bearing which is not C3. OEM bearing is C3.

Shifter drum bearing doesn't get any high rpm & stays relatively cool so i THINK its ok? :) need some clarification though...

yes I hear good things about John Sickd but you must get your facts right Ok?

the specials are a standard OEM part. OK? what has chnaged is whether we choose to use ball or roller and most importantly - the endfloat.

we were first told about them by engine hardwear from Sweden. we owe him a debt of gratitude.

thanks for listening.

Taffy

John does not use OEM bearings at all.....OK. They come from a different manufacturer in a different country and he doesn't use balls, they are rollers.

My Bergs main bearings went big time at 30hrs John rebuilt the engine it now has 133hrs and is running sweet.

Hope that clears it up, Cheers.

Maybe i need to clear the air on this subject,

NO NO i do not use the original bearings SKF made in Germany part 800.30.019.000 CYL.ROLLBEAR.NJECP/CHVC058

NO i do not use a ball bearing as they lock in the cases and they do limit crank endfloat.

They are not SPECIAL but they are special to me because they work. They are the same dimensions as the original.

Without giving away trade secrets my bearings are obtained from Japan they are NTN i started using them in 2005 and they are hard to find. I only know of two places in Australia that have them but there could be more, ive tried other major suppliers and they have none and try to steer me in the direction of *** or SNR. Other brands may work as well but i wont use them as ive think ive found the best already and they have never failed on me so why change.

You can buy them from me and they are cheaper than the originals.

Any more information is sold on an hourly rate of $88, i take credit card, cheque or CASH.

thanks John ORANGEBERG

I have a 08 450 husaberg it has done the left main bearing at 79 HR and 2984 KM and about 350 liters of fuel i bought it new 18 months ago.
I had to ride it back 16 km taking it very easy. ( i suppose the piston & liner are no good now )
It's never been raced, ridden only mainly just fire tracks.
I have always changed the oil under 300 km using delo 400.
From new it' has always had a lot of metal on the drain plug with long needle like pieces that look like they come from the gear teeth ?
I have been riding dirt bikes for 35 years and had have never had anything like this happen before :cuss:
I had to keep the oil in the window at about half way, when cold or it would just dump oil into the carby and blow smoke when revved high. ( what is the go with that ? and how to fix it )
A mate has a 07 650 berg and has 135 HR with no problems.
I do like this bike and i don't want it to destroy another motor in only bloody 80 HR of riding that is just ridiculous, do you think i could get some warranty help pay at least half ??

Now i believe from new that the motor felt like it was not balanced and i told the dealer it felt like a holden red 202 motor that had been souped up but not fully balanced. a honda crf 450 is as smooth as, all the way to the limiter even a suzuki DRZ 400 is good. does anyone have a 450 berg that feels like this. i recon it should rev about 3000 RPM more than it does. ( so when i do the engine up should i get it balanced to make sure ) as if a engine is not balanced, it will destroy bearing in no time ( maybe this is what is happening with the berg engines as some are fine and some are rubbish ??)

Hey, does anyone recomend a great berg mechanic in the good old U.S. of A.???
No offense, but if Im getting my berg rebuilt in the U.K. or Australia.... Im going to have to put my motor in my suit case!!! And stay awhile.

In the US I would be chasing up Dale lineaweaver or Rick Bozarth

Travis of Thumper racing would also be worth contacting I know he has built some 102mm bore berg engines.

I just got an engine in from Norway to the UK for £85 and it will go back to Norway for £58.

any good to you?

Taffy

No balls in my rebuilds they are all rollers, thay are not genuine SKF Germany but the same shape and dimension, Mine come from the land of the rising sun ( Japan ), my endfloat is set at .05.
I first told the world about the issue when i had failures on most bikes i sold, the factory or Sweden refused to listen to my story and complaints, the Husaberg KTM Australia team asked me what i used after i sorted the problem as they still had race bikes 06 KTM 570 and Bergs failing in desert races. As a last resort we borrowed some bearings from the the KTM team at Finke desert race in 2006 for my mates stock 525 and we found they were using the Husaberg bearing in their KTMs, guess what !!!! there top riders bearings failed on the first leg down on a stroked 540 to 570 2006 KTM. We survived Australian Safari 2007 650 FE 10th Outright, Condo 750 and then i got calls about my bearings.
Maybe we should talk about test cricket Taffy.???? but lets not get into one day cricket just yet.

After looking at my motor sitting in a milk create for 2mts, after getting it back off John,
i got off my arse and got the old girl going again.

sounds fabulous

will be given it a blast over easter

bike going great about 7 rides on it now, magnet is nice and clean, very happy.

these bikes are just noisy its something you need to get around...

I have done only one ride 110 KM and change to oil, the magnet was completely full of metal just as much as it was when it destroyed the main bearing it has shiny 2 to 3mm flecks mainly 1mm and some copper colour.
I went around the block with new oil and pulled the bung out more metal on the magnet. going for another ride and will see if it happens again  8O :cuss: i have had it with this f en
