I've seen some posts where people are using Delo....what is the real deal with the oil that is recommended for four stroke bikes??? Can someone knowledgeable explain the difference between good synthetic oil and good synthetic 4T oil? Why are people using oil that is spec'd for diesel trucks? Can I use Amsoil 20W-50??? :?

I use schaeffer 15-40 also. It is a synthetic blend. I use it in diesel busses, works great! Some say the moly additive will cause clutch slippage in some applications. I have yet to experience this.

Why use it?? you ask, well I don't like doing engines, down time, cost, etc. I use what WORKS. I believe in the product. They provide free wear analysis to their fleet customers(obviously in the bulk price, i.e. spendy compared to mobil(junk)). My diesels run better, longer with increased drain intervals. Period. The local public transit fleet also uses it, Their medium duty Cummins engines have TWICE as many hours on them coompared to what Cummins claims they should have with-out an O/H.

NO I don't work for Schaeffer's. Fleet/diesel operator's want good lube!
Better oil=LESS work and $$$$

As for the science behind using diesel oils, They all have more anti-foaming agents than gas/auto oil. beneficial where the engine and trans share lube. They also have higher thermal breakdown temps. When oil gets cooked and loses its viscosity is when metal on metal wear occurs. Delo is an excellent choice based on these characteristics also. Any petroleum engineers out there? The depletion of additives and viscosity stability determines the drain interval.

Diesel spec oils also are allowed to have additives (moly for one) that is not allowed by the EPA (GAG!) in automotive/cycle spec oils. Diesel truck motors cost tens of thousands of dollars to rebuild and produce incredible strains on lubricants. Check out what fleet owners use (Delo 400 or Rotella, same thing) They are using the best oil they can. I have personally seen 2 'Bergs (NOT mine!) that were "accidentally" run with NO OIL AT ALL after brainless owners drained the Delo 400 out, and forgot to re-fill before the next race. One in particular was on a "mile bike" and went out, warmed up and did several HARD laps bouncing off the rev limiter before pulling into the pits and only then did the owner realize that they forgot to put oil back in the bike. Oil was then added as the consensus was "the damage has already been done.." the bikes were raced twice that weekend after that. Upon tearing the motors down there was NO indication of any damage to bearings, journals etc. In addition (knock on wood) I've NEVER had an oil related failure on ANY race bike that I've used it it. Dale-Bob swears by the stuff, and he worked for Chevron for years before becoming the mad scientist of motors he is, and he uses nothing else. If you are changing oil as often as you should (after EVERY race weekend, or long ride), synthetic is a waste of money.
