Oil filter interchangeability?

I bought Scott's filters for my Berg, as well as my street bike. Then I was reading a post on a web site particular to my street bike in which a seemingly knowledgable guy goes into a rant about the size of particulate matter that the Scott's will, or will not, pick up. Scott's will not pick up some of the smaller stuff that a paper filter will. In a roller bearing motor, this might not be too serious, but in a plain bearing motor, I would worry a little. This might be worry for naught, and I guess that keeping clean oil and any good filter just may be enough. The pressure that the filter keeps against the oil pump is an issue that I would like to know more about. Is it good and necessary?

Filters are not intended to maintain pressure or limit flow. In many industrial applications, the filter change interval is specified by a specific pressure drop across the filter. IMO, less pressure at the filter equals a more reliable flow to the bits that need it.
