Oil Alternatives

I use the Motul (10w50 I think) and it's as good as the motorex in my opinion, but it also cost almost the same :?
Every A brand make good oils I think, just make sure you change them enough.

Just because its the latest oil doesn't mean its better. The latest Delo 400, the Delo 400 LE is Low Emissions, and some of the Berg 'goodness' is removed accordingly. OTTOMH it has less sulphur, which is good for roller/ball bearings and gears, which I'm led to believe is good for impact loads. Lots of modern oils are designed for plain bearings where film strength is a priority, but they don't work as well with roller/ball bearings and gearboxes. I believe my 501 experience where I changed the roller followers and damaged camshaft after running exclusively on Mobil 1 4T to new parts and also changed to Delo 400 at the same time have confirmed it to me. I have over twice the hours on the motor now than previously, and no sign of a problem. The log book is a bit scratchy, but now approximately 33,500 kms total. Did the above switch at about 10,000 kms. At 5,000 kms the crank was done as a precaution and probaly not needed based on subsequent experience, new valve seats were fitted after the inlets disintegrated and a Wiseco piston. Not touched otherwise mechanically. Externally, an FCR and a few stators have also been done and some patching up of the exhaust.

So should the new 70 Degree engines use Delo 400?
The dealer sold me Motorex 10W/60 Cross Power Fully Synthetic 4T (What ever all that means)

I'm not real happy with 5100 myself but when I rebuilt my yzf after using mineral exclusivley the mains smelled burnt and had done a few laps of their bores. So what to do maybe try the motorex ? I know for sure as soon as I put 5100 in the shift quality went down.

I serviced mine using motul 5100 and the shift action became notchy so I topped the level up to near the top of the sight glass and it spits oil in to the air box and I can smell oil when I'm riding but shift action is slightly less notchy ( same with my mates bike ) The stupid oil has the jaso grade so what gives ? I'm gonna finish this bottle ( at 64 bucks for 4 litres I aint gonna waste it ) and go the delo. Can any of the Aussie bergites tell me if the caltex branded delo is the same stuff everyone else is on about ? I'd hate to smoke my clutch. Is this the stuff?[attachment=0:271o1k7z]Photo014.jpg[/attachment:271o1k7z]
I serviced my 08 550 before I sold it and never rode it cos I polished the *** off it so I dont know if it was righteous and the dealer hasn't sold it yet so no feeback.

thats the stuff in the pic

can add 10% morey HD oil stabiliser but need to make sure the big end cage isn't silver plated

I would use delo in the new 70deg engine or belray thumper, motul gets the thumbs down, doesn't last if you use the clutch and makes the clutch action all screwy 5100 beter than 300v but still no good for hard going. for "normal" use 300v lasts ok and is the slipperyest out there for sure .... if thats what you want.

Re: Oil Alternatives ELF

This is a prett good alternative, price wise, that could be worth trying....Anyone comment?
ELF OIL
MOTO 4 XT TECH
100% synthetic base
10W-50
100% PAO
JASO MA
API SG
Anti-clutch slippage
Very high endurance performance

Packs: 1 Litre, 4 Litres,60 Litre barrel, 205 Litre drum

Uh yeah think I'll give delo a lash bushie, at 80 bucks for a 20 lt drum It represents great value for money. I only selected motul in the first place as it was the only oil that fit the spec as per the manual. Also being a new to me and generally new bike I werent inclined to deviate too far from spec. ( not to mention the only oil carried by the local bike shops that fit the bill ) never have liked the stuff, dishwater after 3 hours. As far as 300v goes 1.5 litre every 3 hours would mean no JD for me  1 hour to next service see how we go.

This stuff looks alright anybody used this ant feed back?

Elf moto 4xt is a good choice of oil for the bergs it meets all the required criteria and is cheaper than the Motul product here in the south pacific .It is a hard working oil that handles the temp extremes and you can trust it to run it out for the full maintenance period and not feel like you have to drop it early.Delo 400 is not readily available here but i might do some reasearch on costing and availability in NZ and Aus.

I am pretty certian it is available here in NZ. Wholesalers is about 100m from where I work in Hamilton, and I priced 20l a few weeks ago, and I don't remember the exact price, but I think it was about $140 (of our pacific pesos). I was going to buy a 20l to try it out once I have run in my rebuilt 450. (this week end?) Let me know if you want a bit to try, or want me to buy some and ship it to you. I will be getting some in the next few days.

Thanks rogerhnz, good to hear from a kiwi on the forum!I would like to trial delo 400 if you get a 20l pac I will purchase a couple of litres off you.You can post a private message to me on this site, with your email etc cheers.

Motul B-gone :finger2: Put 1.5 hard hours in today and... No left hand cramp. Why :?: Coz gearshifts didn't require giving the clutch notice or trying to pull the clutch lever thru the back of the bars. Fuggen cam chain adjuster will achieve unpowered flight into the bin shortly

So are you saying that the Delo 400 improved the gearbox and clutch action? We knew it would!

yeah dude box is sweet, I reckon its liberated something extra from the motah as well.

OK so I found a fork seal for a 02 KTM 520. It says "in system to be sold #40540603" I would rather not take it apart to see if it fits.

If you don't answere me I will find you.

The seal is blue if that helps. This is not favoret thing to fix and I got a rear bearing going again somewhere.
