i fitted one of these a few weeks ago and haven't had the chance to use it in anger until today.

the story for me is of the front having no feel. in the meantime i fitted softer and better pads but still couldn't trust the front. so it then became the rear that did all the work. i then fitted the rekluse auto clutch, removed the foot rear brake and had the front magura converted to brake use. i then started locking the rear by hand so i cut a third of the surface area out. this cured this and i became very, very rear brake dependant last season.

so the answer was to get a better front!

or should i say: "a better feel to the front!" because as far as i'm concerned the brembo is awful.

i fitted the nissin which i bought off e-bay for £40. i think it came off a CRF250R.

you can really feel the front brake and just pull right in. with both the hand rear and the new nissin i feel i'm on the way here.

there is a choice of banjo bolts and i found the 'course' thread to fit.

if racing - it's worth it.

fwiw, i needed to replace the front brake line i broke in a crash. no berg hose (in my price bracket) was available, so i picked up a stock late 80s husky setup complete. i noticed the old hose was considerably more floppy and seemingly of a larger inside diameter than the berg. it worked, but the feel was so totally different (more lever travel for the same braking power) that i am convinced that to get the feel you want from a brake, the best thing to do is play with the hose diameter. i think somebody suggested to try mtb hoses for a smaller inside diameter. biggest prob w/ this scheme is to find a supplier.

I was right! I was right! hehe. Do I get immortalized in the Holy Doc, as being the first to bring this to husaberg.org? :D I believe I was. Could be wrong.
The ktm and co. spec'ed brembos are utter garbage, front and rear. I do not understand thier philosophy of using them year after year. Maybe they have investments in health care providers?
Bobzilla, you should swap yours out. My nissin front feels perfect and treats me right.

I'm lookin for one, anybody know if all the nisson's fit the *********** forks? Taffy and Brendan your both right and I know that had to contribute to my last big fall.

Bob,
You only need the master cyclinder. The brembo caliper is ok, so you don't have to worry about that part. I bought my nissin as cannondale surplus off ebay. You will need the honda banjo bolt, if it doesn't come with it. You should be able to use any year around 2k forward honda nissin. I am wary of yamaha's nissin, as the wr I test rode had ktm brembo like brakes (no progression). When you replace it, you can throw the old brembo MC in a tree mulcher.

ok lil fella, we'll give ya credit for that! now here's a lolly now run off wonchya and stop botherin us adults!

to tell you the truth i did all this stuff 22 years ago. the difference this time is that for once someone else did the testing for me. yes you brendan!

i can't see why there should be a difference between yam and honda M/Cs though...

just for reference, i had brembo brakes on my duke and the brembo M/Cs went something like: 8, 11, 14mm piston whilst lockheed went 9, 12, 15mm. my brembo was wooden so i bought down a piston size in lockheed and then the brake was great! so in THAT case it was simply getting the piston size right.

now i would imagine it has more to do with the leverage and pivot point of the lever etc.

hi Taffy,

i too bought a front brake master cylinder new off ebay, current CRF (not CRF-X).

i have hated the stock KTM sponge brake(both on 2005 and now 2006 models). from memory the Husaberg was not as bad(2003 model), however KTM folk reckon the problem started in 2005. Ironically the front brake on friends 1997 KTM620SC is very nice!

anyway i fitted up the CRF master cylinder with a Honda banjo bolt and washers. i was not aware that different banjo bolts were available???

anyway the net result is that i am 50% satisfied. the problem has been resolved a long way but still not perfect. not too hard to pease am I???

what really got my attention was the brakes on a 2006 KX450F. this is the best front brake i have ridden. note that the Kwaka uses Nissin but is more like the Yamaha style - brake line bolts to the front of the reservoir.

anyway i am happy with the Nissin and will keep the stock unit as a spare. i have not come across a concrete caliper or brake line upgrade. will keep persisting.

Have Fun
Jeff

P.S - some people have had success by ensuring that the holes in the banjo bolt (both upper and lower) are facing upwards so that air bubbles can escape easily. i found that my holes were already facing up, and therefor can not comment.
